Critical Thinking Worldview: Abortion
Part One: What is a biblical worldview?
First let’s start off with the understanding of a regular worldview. Which is what
everyone has whether you’re a Christian or not. For example, a worldview is one’s beliefs,
morals, values etc. that forms their philosophy of life. Therefore, a biblical worldview is also
what is considered a Christian worldview. This worldview has God at the center of it all because
He is the creator of everything. Us as Christians our biblical worldview comes from the Bible
and the truth God spoke in it. For example, according to John 17:17 and 2 Timothy 3:16 they
both tell us how “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” meaning that God helped them
and gave them wisdom on what to say. So based on that why wouldn’t we live by the Bible.
Having a biblical worldview also changes the way we view and act on events that are
taking place in the world as we know it. It could be the biggest things such as an abortion law
being past and in those times of trouble, we look to him for wisdom which is stated in Proverbs
3:5. Or it could be the littlest thing like a worker messing up your order and we can look at John
13:34 and remember the commandment He gave us to love one another as He has loved us. In
conclusion as Christians, we don’t just rely on our biblical worldview for events happening, but
we also rely on it when we are doing everyday life things. Such as what we do with our time, our
money and how we should respond to leadership, and to treating others. Therefore, the Bible is
here for us as Guide on how to do life and He is here to help us when we need that help.

Part Two: Contemporary Issues- Define the opposing views
The contemporary issues of abortion would be pro-life vs. pro-choice. I personally am a
pro-lifer, but I have many friends from back home who believe in pro-choice, and we tend to get
in many debates. Pro-lifers are against abortion. For example, they are concerned with the child’s
life and believe that there is no need for abortions. While on the other hand you have the total
opposite the people who are pro-choice and are for abortion because they believe that women
should have the right to choose what happens to their body.
However what pro-choicers don’t realize is the baby is not a part of the woman’s body it
is only in the woman’s body. For example, according to Ryan Mayer there are ten reasons why
the baby is not a part of the woman’s body. I will not be stating all ten, but I will be stating the
three that stood out to me. Another reason is the blood type for example he states how “Contrary to
popular thought, the unborn does not share a circulatory system or blood with the mother.”[ CITATION
Rya15 \l 1033 ] Stating that no matter what the majority believes its not always right. Finally, the last
reason being the genetic identity “That is, the mother and unborn child are both genetically unique
individuals. They each have their own DNA and genetic makeup that has never and will never be
repeated.” [ CITATION Rya15 \l 1033 ] Therefore, just giving more reasoning on why the baby is not a
part of the woman’s body.
Another thing the pro-choice believers tend to argue is if they are raped and if it’s between either
the baby or the mother, they should have the right to get rid of it. They believe if someone is raped, they
should not have to have the child and look at it every day and be reminded of that horrible experience.
Also, they believe if the mother has a risk of dying with having the kid, they should be able to abort the
mother can live. However pro-lifers believe there is always another option rather than aborting with rape
such as adoption. With the mother they believe if it comes down to it you would give the mother’s life up
so the child could have a life. In conclusion what people must realize is we all may have different beliefs
but at the end of the day we just want what is best for each other.

Part 3: The Contemporary Issues as seen through the lens of a Biblical Worldview
As we discussed above the contemporary issue is pro-life vs pro-choice. However, what
we didn’t discuss was looking at through the lens of a biblical worldview. Therefore, Pro-lifers
tend to be Christians while you have the pro-choicers who tend to be nonbelievers. This is
because in the bible it tells us in many different versus that abortion is wrong. For example, in
Exodus 20;13 it tells us that “You shall not murder” and what is abortion doing. It is murdering
innocent babies that God put on this earth for a reason. Another verse you can look at is Jeremiah
1:5 that’s a little longer but it tells us how God knew before He even formed us in our mother’s
womb. So, by killing that innocent baby you are also saying that God’s creation wasn’t good
enough and didn’t deserve to live.
Therefore, why pro-lifers believe people who get raped should still have the baby. Is
because they know from reading the bible and hearing Jeremiah 29:11 that says “'For I know the
plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give
you a hope and a future”. Knowing this gives them hope that the rape happened for a reason and
the baby coming out of it will be a gift from God. Also, who gives us the right to take away one
of God’s beautiful creations because something that happened to us. For example, Julie is a
product of rape and in this article, she doesn’t care of her origin she states how "It doesn't matter
how I began. What matters is who I will become."[ CITATION Kat \l 1033 ] This is what people
need to focus more on instead of what will people think because that doesn’t matter the only
person that can judge us is God at the end of the day.
Lastly would be the mother’s health over the baby’s health situation. Pro-lifers believe that
if the mother’s life was at risk of having the baby most of them would go through with the
pregnancy. The first reason because they have already seen the world and lived their life and if
they die than the child will be able to live their life. Also, the mother knows of she dies the father
will be there and the mother will be going to heaven. See in the biblical worldview we look at it as
God is in control and whatever happens is his plan. All of us as Christians can do is pray and do
what 1 Chronicles 16:11 says which is “Look to the Lord and His strength; seek his face always.”.
Knowing that whatever answer He has is for the best. In conclusion according to planned
parenthood we can all agree on one thing and that is “Instead of putting people in one category or
another, we should respect the real-life decisions people and their families face every
day”[ CITATION Mir19 \l 1033 ]. Therefore, and us as Christians and with our biblical worldview
will not judge them but keep them all in our prayers that they make the right decision.
