Worldview Essay
A worldview is exactly how it sounds, it is how we view the world. According to the
“What is the Worldview” presentation “God wants us to see the world the way He’s told us it is.”
Another definition of a world view from the “Worldviews” presentation is “A world view is a
person’s philosophy of life” (Dr. Lew Weider, Worldview Presentation, 1:27). Generally
speaking, everyone has a world view, whether it be a Christian or non-Christian worldview. A
world view is what we use for our everyday decision making, it is how we view the world, and
how we view others. “Having a biblical worldview fundamentally means that we view the world
through the lens of Scripture. This means that above all else, the Bible is the soil from which our
worldview grows” (Everyday Biblical Worldview, Hindson ch.1, p.9).
The English definition of origin is “the point or place where something begins, arises, or
is derived” (Oxford Living Dictionary). In religion, specifically Christianity, we can assume
when we speak of origin, we are talking about the origin of the universe, the world, and
mankind. The origin of all these topics can be found in Genesis. Genesis 1:1 is the perfect
example of the origin of the universe, while short, it makes the point that needs to be made.
Proverbs 8:22-31 is also a good example of the origin of mankind.
The English definition of identity is “the fact of being who or what a person or thing is”
(Oxford Living Dictionary). In the bible our identity is how God created us, in his image,
according to Genesis 1:27. This is a standard of Christian ethics. “Christian ethics is more than
simply a standard for us to aspire to. This sets it apart from other ethical systems, and in fact sets

Christianity apart from other ethical systems” (Paul Coulter, “What Does it Mean to be
Human?”). According to Paul Coulters article “What Does it Mean to be Human,” the fact that
that we are created in God’s image tells us that God has a purpose for all of us and that
individually, we have a part to play within that purpose. This means that Christians are not any
better than anyone else, we all have the same significance and importance in Gods eyes.
Every human being longs to find their purpose. We all want to know why we are here,
and what we are supposed to do. Without purpose, what do we have? Without purpose, life is
essentially meaningless. “The Bible affirms human purpose in two ways. First, there is a general
purposefulness about human life. Second, there is also individual purpose in life”
(compellingtruth.org, “What does the Bible say about life purpose?”). There are many great
verses that show purpose of humanity in the Bible, Jeremiah 29:11 and John 15:16-17 are two of
them.
“The Christian worldview is based on two foundational axioms: 1) God exists, and 2)
God has spoken to us in the Bible. If these two presuppositions aren’t the starting point in a
Christian worldview, then we’re just like everyone else, trying to find objectivity in a sea of
subjectivity” (Got Questions Ministries, “Why should the Bible be our source for morality?”
2018). Part of the notion that we are all created in God’s image is that we are all created “moral”.
We know the difference between right and wrong, whether we chose to make the right decision
or the wrong decision. The Bible says that God wrote His law on our hearts, which creates the
morality that all humans are born with. Romans 2:15 perfectly demonstrates to morality of
human beings and how we consciously process right versus wrong and whether we accuse
ourselves or excuse ourselves.

Destiny is a big deal in Christianity, we all want to go to Heaven, and we want to live our
lives doing God’s work and proving our faith to him and to others. Romans 8:29-30 says that
“For those God foreknew he also predestined,” (New International Version, Romans 8:29-30) if
you read the entire verse you will see that God has already set our paths, all we must do to
achieve the destiny he has planned for us, is to follow His path. There are many verses in the
Bible about destiny, Job 8:13, Job 27:14, Psalm 11:6, and Psalm 9:17, to name a few. All these
verses lead back to the same conclusion, follow the Lord and you will find yourself with eternal
life in Heaven, ignore the lord and your destiny will be much darker.
Having a biblical worldview should influence you to treat others the way that you want to
be treated. Matthew 7:12 says this very thing, so does Luke 6:31. You should treat others with
kindness, respect, and love, you should be helpful and not selfish. Live your life the way that
God intended you to. Philippians 2:4 says that we should look at the interest of other before
ourselves, not the other way around. When it comes to voting and electing officials for your
country and community, you should vote based on who you think will lead the community the
best. Ask yourself who would lead this country or this community the way that God would want
them to? Who has our best interest and God’s best interest at heart? Read Deuteronomy 1:53 and
Romans 13:1-14 and any other verses you can find that will be helpful and useful in guiding you
towards the correct decision.
