I think that it is great that your research area is Suicide/Suicide Prevention based
off your personal stories with your family as I know you will gain considerable
insight as you delve more into your research. My research area is Trauma
Psychology and similar to what you said, the first step is recognizing that we live
in a fallen world, as Wolter elaborates when he says ones of the effects of the
fall are, "emotional disturbances and mental diseases; these too are distortions of
creaturely human functions and participate in the groaning of creation. (Wolters,
2005, p. 55).
We must first understand why things are the way they are to get to the next step
but thank God it does not stop there. The resurrection of Jesus Christ has given
us hope. It has given hope to those contemplating suicide, it has given hope to
those who are experiencing trauma. Understanding this can be a part of helping
suicide prevention and cope during one’s healing process. "Everywhere humanity's
sinfulness disrupts and deforms. Everywhere Chris's victory is pregnant with the
defeat of sin and the recovery of creation (Wolters, 2005, p. 73).
Although there will be trouble in the world, Jesus has won the victory. 2
Corinthians 4:8-9 “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but
not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not
destroyed (English Standard Version Bible, 2001, 2 Corinthians 4:8-9."
