I like how you related self-control to sin and distortion. Self-control is directly
related to how the fall happened. With his free will, Adam gave in to temptation.
Some, but not all, distortions also relate to self-control. Impulsivity, to include
eating, adultery, and violence all relate to self-control. As a school counselor and
student of developmental psychology, I work with youth a lot on self-control. It is
a skill that many people, including adults, struggle with daily. After the fall, it
something we really have to work hard at every day in order to succeed long
term. However, some illnesses and other factors affect self control too. How is
your interest in self-control related to your degree program and goals in life?
Wolters discusses how we should strive to not altogether get rid of what has
been distorted, but rather to purify and sanctify it (2005). This has much to do
with self-control and self-regulation. It takes an immense amount of these
attributes to help reform what has been distorted. Not only that, but to help keep
things that way and help others to do the same.
