I have learned more about developmental psychology and how it has
connected to different concepts. With regards to a thought leader, a
thought leader is defined as someone who is “the informed opinion
leaders and the go-to people in their field of expertise. They become the
trusted sources who move and inspire people with innovative ideas; turn
ideas into reality, and know and show how to replicate their success”
(Brosseau, 2021, p. 1). In other words, a thought leader is an expert in
their field and can support and teach others about their field. For myself,
still feel like I am becoming a thought leader, and I still have so much to
learn before I become an expert in my field. Becoming a thought leader
doesn’t happen overnight, I believe it takes time and work to gain the
knowledge of your field.
I started my career working with early childhood, specifically I have been
working with toddlers and now preschoolers. I have developed an interest
in learning about behaviors and children’s mental health. More
specifically, developmental psychology. Developmental psychology within
young children is observing and understanding children growing and the
changes that they face as they grow older (Childcare.gov, 2022). Within
my research area, I have become more interested in the research, I am
becoming more interested in the behavior side and assessment. As well
as, giving parents and teachers resources on how to help children with
social, emotional, mental, and cognitive development. I have liked being
able to compare developmental psychology to different researchers and
learning about the past philosophers.
I have been praying for a long time about my career, what road I should
take and even if I should go back to school. I felt God urging me to go
back to school and to explore a new option in my life. I really fell in love
with psychology and really enjoyed learning so much not only about
psychology, but about myself as well. I am grateful for this course and for
teaching us the beginning of psychology to be further build on in future
classes.
