The PowerPoint presentation will connect developmental psychology to
Johnson’s (2010) second viewpoint of the connection between psychology
and Christianity. The introductory slide will describe the purpose of the
PowerPoint, which is to connect the second viewpoint to developmental
psychology. The viewpoint slides will connect developmental psychology
to the second viewpoint.
The PowerPoint will also define both developmental psychology and the
second viewpoint. Development psychology is defined as “ a scientific
approach which aims to explain growth, change and consistency though
the lifespan. Developmental psychology looks at how thinking, feeling,
and behavior change throughout a person’s life” (McLeod, 2017). In other
words, developmental psychology is a scientific approach that measures
and studies human growth throughout their lifespan. Developmental
psychology also measures emotional, social, mental and cognitive
behaviors and growths as well (McLeod, 2017).
The second view or “An Integration View” is the belief that psychology is a
science about questioning and learning, specifically learning the answers
to the ultimate questions of life (Jones, 2010). Jones (2010) also believes
that in order to see the connection between Christianity and science, one
needs to decide where to receive the answers to the “ultimate questions”
from. Jones (2010) then goes into explanation about how Christians look
to God to give us the answers to life. From there, Jones states “therefore,
an integrationist believes that Christian psychologist should draw on the
resource of God’s answers to these ultimate questions…” (p. 101). With
connecting this to developmental psychology, developmental psychology
is all about learning and questioning. As stated above, the main
component of developmental psychology is about growth and learning,
which is also the main component of the second view. Thus, forming a
connection over learning and showing how both humans and Christians
learn.
In conclusion, there are multiple connections between the second view
and developmental psychology. It is important to explore these
connections and see how they affect both Christianity and psychology.
