Within the psychology field, I would like to work in the developmental
field, specifically with young children. In this week’s module video, What is
a Ph.D. in Psychology?, psychologists are defined in two different
concepts. One in basic research and developing and the other in using
knowledge to help “people, organizations, and communities’ function
better” (Spratto, 2:50). For myself, my goal is to become a psychologist
who uses their knowledge to help young children. Therefore, the division
that I examined was Developmental Psychology.
Within the website, there were a lot of topics being discussed. Such as
COVID-19, the President’s message, and even calling for more mentors.
Under the publication topic though, there were some really informative
articles for parents, teachers and students to read about children, and a
blog about children and their families. The website has a lot of good
resources for those who need/want to learn more about children and their
families (APA Divisions, 2022).
I really enjoyed reading the connecting website Info about Kids. This
website shares a lot of information and articles about healthy
development. Including a child’s body, mind, emotions and relationships.
This website is a crucial tool for parents and teachers to learn more
information on a child’s development and what they can do to further
support young children in all aspects. This website including’s advice on
divorce, transitions to school, dyslexia and even what to talk to your
child’s doctor about. There are different tools to further learn about a
child’s specific emotional and mental health and how adults can further
support young children. Some of the links on this site even lead to blog
posts where adults can see and connect to each other. As a conclusion to
this research, it can be seen how the Developmental division is a crucial
resource to not only future psychologist, but even to parents and
teachers.
