Dear Colleague,
a a a a a a a a a a I wanted to discuss extending the research you sent to me this week.
You explained how workplace friendships could forge interconnections among
colleagues. I am interested in the friendships between generations in the
workplace. Individuals 55 and older remain in the workforce longer, causing
challenging circumstances for companies (Fasbender & Drury, 2021). Whether
employees are young or old, encouraging age diversity in the workplace is non-
negotiable, but forging healthy work friendships among individuals within different
age groups may benefit everyone. Individuals spend thousands of hours over
one's life at work, which means that time spent with employees is a significant
part of those hours—embracing different age groups. The workforce friendship
allows individuals to see through the other person's eyes strengths and
weaknesses and learn from each other whether one is a part of the younger
generation or older generation (Fasbender & Drury, 2021).
a a a a a a a a a I would like us to further the research by performing a descriptive study,
to survey social involvement among different generations in the workplace causes
work to be pleasurable daily. A survey method using a 5-Point Likert scale, 1-
strongly agree and 5 - strongly disagree—face-to-Face interviews near businesses
that have age diversity within their companies. The survey will have questions
related to friendship and generational differences in the workplace. This study will
help extend the results you sent to me because colleagues in the workplace are
from different generations, which may cause ingroup friendships among different
ages. If we consider this research, we may find that it may help cross-group
friendships in the workplace, offering workplace satisfaction.
a a a a a a a a a I would like for you to read an article that I reviewed. Age diversity may be
essential for a thriving, healthy work environment for older and younger
employees. Fasbender & Drury (2021) state that age diversity friendships create
oneness in the workplace. This research used scales focused on measuring age-
diverse friendship related to recognizing oneness, retention in the workplace,
motivation to cooperate, Interrole conflict, and job satisfaction. The participants
were given a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1-strongly agree and 5-strongly
disagree. There were six hypotheses, and I was interested in theory one because
of focusing on the previously stated measures. The results showed that age-
diverse friendship positively affected perceived oneness (y = .36, SE =.10, p<.001).
We are interested in studying to help us understand if working with different
generations better workplace satisfaction?
