Introduction
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) generally a
classification system used to contain diagnostic criteria for all mental illness (Barlow et al.,
2022). There is a variety of a selection of DSM’s to choose from, this report tells more about the
Trauma and stressor-related disorder. First of all what is trauma and stressor-related disorder?
Well it is a group of emotional and behavioral problems that bring on traumatic events from
one’s childhood and can be a stressful situation. Rather than having a fear or anxiety symptoms,
most people have dysphoric symptoms, angry or aggressive symptoms, or dissociative symptoms
(Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders DSM-5. (2013). People who tend to have
a trauma event or stressful life, tend to be apologetic more than others too. Within these
symptoms they can lead up to catastrophic events. It does not necessarily have to be a childhood
moment, it can typically be any traumatic event that has happened in one’s life. So there are six
trauma disorders: post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) very known, acute stress disorder
(ASD), second-hand trauma, reactive attachment disorder (RAD), disinhibited social engagement
disorder (DSED), and adjustment disorders. These six disorders can have health and life impacts
with one’s daily activities, plus can lead up to other health conditions if not careful.
Historical of Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders
The history of the DSM has been characterized by a shift in the theory of mental health
and illness, by reflecting an attempt of the ontological claims, of biomedicine, and encourage
psychiatry’s medical identity (Kawa, S., & Giordano, J. (2012).If we take a look at the history,
during the civil war times many of the army members suffered from PTSD, because they saw so
many tragic events happen during a war. Some symptoms of PTSD are nightmares, loss of sleep,
tics, fatigue, skittish, memory loss, poor concentration, etc. Not just the army has traumatic
2
3
events, so of the others are rape, physical assaults, a death of a loved one, car wreck, torture, etc.
There was changes in the formal psychiatric diagnostic criteria, but before that criteria ever
existed people noticed symptoms by how someone would behavior by observing. The first
known recording of a phenomenon PTSD was the Railway Spine in 1867 and it was outlined by
the passengers as to be a violent shock of a railway collision. The first DSM was published in
1952 and was known as the PTSD or labelled “gross stress reaction” (Diagnostic and statistical
manual of mental disorders DSM-5. (2013). It was to help with those natural and environmental
disasters. As of today things are getting better by the discipline and psychiatry has changed over
time, as from the being it was rocky when the first DSM was released. Psychologist manifest
impact within patients to conduct of psychiatry, medicine, and the social sphere (Kawa, S., &
Giordano, J. (2012). Psychiatrist try to set the boundaries of their mental health and to help
broaden them in our areas. The psychiatric community is growing everyday, as to in the
beginning there were only a few that would help. It has took nearly sixty years to get where we
are today in the psychiatric community (Simões, G., & Silva, R. (2021).These medical/ mental
disorders all should be brought to attention to one’s doctor or psychiatrist so one can be
evaluated. No one should ever have to suffer or go through all these traumatic events and feel
like one is experiencing them all over again. Today they have more technology and new
medicines that can help, than what they had back in the day. The more we observe, analyze,
collect data, and study, the more we become better knowledge of the situation. Like today they
have were they can give assessment test to help better understand some situations. So much has
changed over time it is unreal. It is like every year something new comes out and is tested to see
how much useful it can be. PTSD and many other disorders have been ongoing for many years,
pretty sure they are not going away any time soon or even ever.

Cause of Illness
As most of everyone knows the cause of most trauma and stressor-related disorder
illnesses are from a tragic event that has happened in one’s life. It could be a physical attack, a
car wreck, a death of a loved one, sexually assaulted, war, or any horrifying event that could be
thought of. Although most causes of the trauma and stressor-related disorder is all the different
types of abuse. I have been through them all, this is why I am seeking out to be a psychiatrist
because now I want to help those who are in need. Sometimes any small thing can set off a
trigger and cause us to relive these catastrophe events again. A simply smell, nightmare, seeing
an accident, having a conflict, etc. All these can lead up to much more of a health problem if
under a lot of stress. We tend to stress a lot over things, when we should not. Stress plays a bad
toll on our body and hurts our body. So if we stress it can cause us to have long-lasting changes
that affect our behavior causing a condition such as post-traumatic stress disorder, known as
PTSD (Kenji et al., 2022). Even though stressful events happen daily, sometimes it is hard to get
by when one suffers with a disorder unless your doctor has prescribed one with the right
medicine or treatment. The struggle is real! Reliving these tragic events is a nightmare, I know
from experience as I too suffer from PTSD. Simple things tend to flair mine up. Sometimes
scents, being in a room with a lot of people, especially a lot of men, car accidents, hospitals, and
other things, just can’t think of them at the moment. I know everyone is different but there are a
lot of similarities too. Stress plays a key factor because if one is stressed one can cause other
health problems that could lead up to something like a stroke, panic attack, or even worse a heart
attack. We have to watch our stress levels as we do not need them in the high range.

Treatment
Sometimes trauma and stressor-related disorder can be life-threatening. In all these events and
moments we need to find the best coping method that works. Whether it be medicine, someone
to talk to, the Bible, music, a run, a movie, a nice warm hug, etc. There are some many different
options available that can help before one goes to far and is way stressed out. Treating PTSD
offers opportunities for the creation of all the types of therapies out there (Ting, A., &
McLachlan, C. (2023). The emerging role of acceptance and commitment therapy and physical
interventions as part of treatments for trauma and stressor related disorder (Arias, et al., 2021).
Cognitive Therapy is another way of treatment it helps modify pessimistic evaluations and
memories of one’s traumatic event. The first line of treatment for trauma is trauma-focused
psychotherapy. Which is exposure rather than the other types of therapy that is offered and
medication of course. Sometimes all we need is to talk through our problems and then we are all
okay, well until it happens again or flairs back up. One’s psychiatrist tries to turn those events
around with a goal of interrupting that disturbed behavioral or pattern event that has been
interfering with one’s every day life so that person can move past it and continue moving
forward. Narrative Exposure Therapy, better yet known as group therapy. Can act out one’s
traumatic events and as a group try to refuge through them, you are not alone, remember that!
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, where one is hypnotized to go back
to the memory of the traumatic event, so the psychiatrist can try to help figure out a plan to get
through it. There are so many different types of therapies and some I didn’t even know about.
Yes, some people think seeing a psychiatrist can be an embarrassing thing, but let’s ask this. . If
it helps someone, would they not want to do it? Support and advice is the number one thing
around here. Everyone goes to either a friend, family member, preacher, the Bible, a counselor,
5
6
or psychologist to seek advice if needed within a mental disorder. Sometimes medication does
help, like an antidepressant or something to help sleep. A psychiatrist teaches us how to address
our situations and some try to prevent us from going on medication, as they can become
addictive, then that leads to another problem. If one learns to replace negative with positive it
might help throughout everyday life skills.
Prevention
Sometimes it is hard to prevent situations we cannot control, such as a trauma. Stress on
the other hand we can control with a little more patience in life. We could find activities we
enjoy such as go for a walk, run, listen to music, read a good book, watch a movie, do crafts,
exercise, mediate, express our feeling within a blog or journal, hang out with family and friends,
etc. There are a lot of ways to try to prevent ourself from sitting and reminiscing on traumatic
events that have happened in one’s life. Our body and brains need a break from our everyday
life, they need to enjoy something we love to do! Go ahead and stop to take a deep breath, now
did that feel better? Yes! Just image how our bodies feel when we stop and take the time to relax
for them. Stress and trauma pot a toll on our bodies, one should be careful. When a prevention is
in place it improves quality to our life, ability to work, and a health outcome is available.
Sometimes drawing is another good way to help prevent, although it might backfire too, because
what if that person draws the tragic event that happened. There are always those what if’s, but
one will never know unless they try. Everyone is different and will have there own way of
preventing these events to reoccur. Just choose the right one that best fits one’s personality or
something one enjoys and go with it. Do not be afraid to try new things either because what if
6
7
trying those new things occupies one’s brain to not think about the catastrophe events, then
problem solved.
Cross-Cultural
The cross-cultural adaptation was based on the guidelines of the International Test
Commission, on data in the specialized literature and on adaptations of posttraumatic
measurements in previous studies (Donat, et al. 2019). Psychologist help by observing,
analyzing, collecting data after testing, and they even bring in bilingual people to help with
communication. Everyone deserves to be helped! Some situation may be worse than others, yet
everyone deserves the opportunity no matter the situation to be heard if they are having a trauma
or stressful time. Tough topic but an important one cross cultural and trauma. They do have a
bonding relationship, for example discrimination, education, housing, employment, enslavement
of African-Americans, gender-based, ethnic, and racial. Most of the events happened long ago,
but some still are arising today, why? No idea. Stress like this can weigh heavily on one and can
bring up either memories or tragic trauma events. Why can’t everyone just get along like God
wants us to? “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” -Romans 12:18
(ESV). We might can’t control everything that is happening around us, but as God wants us to
try our best to seek peace with everyone around us. Cross-cultural trauma can affect anyone, not
just any certain individual. Which that goes with any disorder as well. A lot of this trauma and
stress can be very overwhelming.
Biblical Worldview
From a Christian’s worldview perspective is no different from any others, just think, God
experienced a traumatic crucifixion on our behalf to have life. So it is no place for a Christian to
judge, nor is it ours. There are so many tragic events that happened throughout the Bible. Jonah
7
8
in the whale, David struggled, Elijah discouraged, Job suffered, and many more. Oh let’s not
forget Adam and Eve. “ So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your
God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”- Isaiah
41:10 (ESV). God will use his power to deliver his people from a curse of sin and bless them
with his presences. We can always turn to God in any situation for help, when we lose all hope in
the world around us. Sometimes things may knock us down but God always has us through all
the tough times. KAs one theologian put it, “The consolation of God flowsKthrough Jesus to the
children of God. It thenKoverflowsKfrom them into others, pouring forth with life-giving power”
(Gregg,KCitation 2016 , p. 134). (M. Elizabeth Lewis Hall,Ket al. 2022). Trauma has so many
different types and comes with different disasters, some are unpreventable. The disciplines of
spiritual and pastoral psychology are uniquely poised to reconceptualize trauma and reframe it as
part of a stress-trauma continuum particularly given the way trauma can engender great suffering
as well as resistance and even the possibility of transformation (Holton, M.J., Snodgrass, J.L.
2023). Traumas and stress can be defined, but most importantly if one is feeling down because of
one of these situations turn to God to pray about the situation. Christians who struggle seek God,
the Bible and sometimes the pastor at their church. Everyone has their go to when their situation
arises.
Conclusion
Trauma and stressor-related disorders are no joke, please take it as a serious matter. I
suffer from PTSD and every abuse, although I do not let it stand in the way of my goals, I find
away to work through the situation without medication. Trauma and stress can be a real struggle
with everyday life situations, if the matter is not under control. Thank goodness they have now
came out with better treatments, technology, and medication that have seem to be working to
8

lower the traumatic events that kept occurring. Life is not easy but we have God as our leader, I
feel as some people tend to forget that. Maybe some feel as God can’t help them, oh but he can.
Reading the Bible helps to and one will see that many have struggled with traumatic and stressful
events, just know you are not alone!
