Conditioning Assignment
This essay is all about procrastination and how it affects your academic performance.
We'll look at the psychology behind procrastination, use course materials to help us understand
it, and suggest ways to improve. We'll also look at how self-control can be learned from a
biblical point of view, using scriptures and our own personal experiences.Like the course
textbook says, procrastination is usually caused by a combination of things like not having
enough time, being afraid of failing, and not having enough motivation (Domjan & Grau, 2015,
pg 162). My friend's reason for procrastinating could be a combination of things, like being
afraid of failing, not wanting to do something, or feeling overwhelmed by the task. The theory of
time discounting says that people put short-term rewards ahead of long-term ones, and people
who procrastinate might be tempted by the short-term relief they get from the stress of the task.I
think my friend should use self-regulation theories to help her stop procrastinating and get better
at school. Breaking things down into smaller, easier tasks can help her feel less stressed and
make it easier to reach her goal. Setting realistic goals and sticking to them, as well as checking
in with yourself regularly to see how you're doing, can help her stay motivated and disciplined.
Showing her how to find support, like joining study groups, can help her feel more responsible
and work together to reach her academic goals. Plus, giving her positive reinforcement and
recognizing her successes can help her be more proactive and stop her from procrastinating.By
following these tips, my friend will be able to get over her procrastinating and create a better
environment for her to succeed academically.
From a biblical point of view, self-control is about making sure your actions are in line
with what's written in the Bible. The Bible talks about self-control as a virtue, and it's often said
that it's the fruit of the Spirit. Self-control is a key part of living a good life and having a purpose.
In the Bible, Joseph is a great example of self-control. Even though he was going through a lot of
bad things, he was able to stay calm and not give in to temptation. When his wife tried to take
advantage of him, he said, "How can I do this evil and sinful thing against God?" (Genesis 39:9,
NIV). I once had a situation in my life where I needed to learn how to control myself. I was
going through a really tough time in my life, and I was struggling with a lot of academic stuff
and some personal stressors. I was really tempted to just give up and take a break for a while, but
I didn't want to do that. I used the self-control techniques I read about in the book, like breaking
things down, setting goals, and being mindful, to help me stay focused and disciplined. If you
don't have self-control, you're like a city that's been invaded and left without any walls Proverbs
25:28 (NIV). That's why it's so important to practice self-control. It's not just a personal virtue,
but a key part of growing spiritually and living a life that's in line with God's word. When you
use biblical principles and practical strategies, you can overcome obstacles, resist temptation,
and show self-control in different areas of your life.
