Motivation, Values & Purpose
“If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead
you right into your purpose” (George et al, 2020, pg. 225). This quote from Rev.T.D. Jakes stood
out to me because of the truth it follows, within life itself. For this purpose, here are some factors
that will benefit our influence on these behaviors, which are the differences between the types of
reinforcements in our behavior. The value and purpose behind one’s experiences and motivation,
and the impact it gives us.
Reinforcement Behavior is all about the effect of the reinforcer depending on the type of
repetition and how it implements the behavior afterward. There are two types of reinforcements
that are called Intrinsic and Extrinsic Reinforcements. Therefore, the only difference between
these two behaviors is the type of source that the behavior has. The intrinsic reinforcement
comes from an internal source, meaning wanting to do something because of the satisfaction you
emotionally get, while the extrinsic reinforcement comes from an external source, which in other
words means doing because of the physical reward that satisfies you. Furthermore, in contrast to
these types of behaviors, they also have a similarity in which they both increase their behavior in
the future.
In addition to the value and purpose, here are some good questions to have in mind when
pondering what the true meaning of value and purpose is. Why are you wearing shorts in 32-
degree weather, knowing you will be cold? Why did you choose to play games on your console
all night other than finishing your school assignments? When you try and answer these
questions, think about the value of your answer. Although, we already know the value, purpose,
and experiences that we comply with within our daily life, we have yet to determine the
motivation of these experiences. While we establish these experiences with our behavior, we are

also considering the motivation to make these different decisions. Considering the example, I
made with the questions to ponder about let’s say I chose to play games all night. I wanted to
complete the game's story before I went to sleep, which consequently, led me to stay in for the
weekend to finish my schoolwork. In general, having value and purpose does effectively relate to
our motivation, experience, behavior, and life decisions.
Apart from the differences between our behavior and the value of all motivation we have,
I would like to share my motivation in my educational pursuit. A pursuit to become better every
day whether it has to do with my creativity in my schoolwork, self-confidence, and knowing that
Christ has given me this opportunity. With that idea in mind, I will be closer to God and obtain
new skills for my future career. “It is truly a blessing to be able to engage daily in our work that
feeds our soul as well as adds important value to the world "(George et al, 2020, pg. 3).
Ultimately, the value and purpose of my educational pursuit impact my experience by knowing
God is my motivation. It is to become a better version of myself and improve each day like this
passage of the textbook concludes, therefore we all have a purpose in life, it's in our control if we
want to find it.
