Sometimes clients have spiritual needs. This article’s argument is a study to
determine should spirituality be included in counseling, whereas others argue that
religious issues may be above the bounds of the counselor's expertise. Most of the
counselor’s results on the study have been published, little has been published on the
desires of the clients. This study administered a literature analysis of research in
clients to see the degree of willingness to incorporate religion and spirituality into
their counseling sessions. Almost all the participants were willing for their counselors
to include spirituality into their counseling sessions, some with certain limitations,
such as religion and age (Diallo, 2013). Most people with a spiritual worldview find
comfort in their spiritual beliefs when they are going through a crisis. Integrating God
in a therapeutic process is essential for counselors and clients who comply with the
Christian faith. We must understand that therapy starts with a Christian worldview of
people and the conversion of transformation. Entwistle (2015) expresses worldview
shape how we understand our experience in the world and reflect our expectations
about life. (Romans 12:1,2) Therefore, I urge you, to offer your bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. Do not conform to the pattern of the world but
be transformed by the renewing of your mind. A relationship, centered in Christ,
surpassed any ethnic or demographic background. Due to the possibility of different
beliefs and the possibility of differences of the issues, both counselor and counselee
seeking therapy may hesitate to combine spirituality in therapy. However, total
wellness includes emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual. We must understand that
the mind and body are connected, and when one area has problems, the other may
be affected also. I have a friend who is experiencing a chronic health condition.
There are many times she doesn’t feel optimistic that her health will improve. She
cannot work and enjoy going to church, and hobbies, and take care of activities of
her daily life. She struggles to find meaning in her life, and this has contributed to
depression. If she was in good spiritual condition, she would be hopeful, and
optimistic even when things are going bad. Integrating Spirituality into counseling can
play a significant role in an individual’s ability to cope with opposition in life. d d
