I do not agree with the statement - ‘Psychology is just sinful human beings
sinfully thinking about other sinful human beings.’ According to ROMANS
3:23 all human beings have committed sins and they fall short of God’s
glory[1]. It is true that the individuals who have shown their trust in Jesus
Christ and have confessed about his resurrection have received deep love
from the Almighty. Even though these individuals have also committed
sins in their lives but God has forgiven their sins and he has accepted
them completely. The individuals who focus on the spirit and not on the
flesh do not receive any kind of condemnation.
The statement that has been presented revolves around psychology which
is the study of human behavior and mind. So, it is not merely about sinful
individuals who think about other sinful people. The statement seems to
be biased towards the entire discipline of psychology. The integration of
psychology and theology is plausible at the conceptual level. However, as
one goes deeper into these separate concepts, it is necessary to be able
to draw the line between them. During the salvation of human beings, it is
natural for a person to tremble and feel scared. There exists fear in his
mind as he is standing before God who would be serving as a healer.
Similarly, he would also tremble during salvation because his human life is
at stake. This example gives an insight into the psychological aspects of a
person during salvation. In such a situation, there is a connection between
the discipline of theology and psychology. Entwistle has discussed the
combination of spirituality with nature. According to him, both the spiritual
world and the natural domain are the result of God’s creativity. While
theology lays emphasis on the words of the Almighty, the psychological
discipline corresponds with His work[2].6
The concepts of psychology and theology can be combined and used
together to capture the generalities of thoughts in human beings. With the
evolution of mankind, the closeness of these disciplines could increase
further. In order to understand the evolution of human beings in a genuine
way it is necessary to understand the fact that psychology and theology
are not mutually exclusive on nature. On the contrary, these disciplines
can be used in order to get a comprehensive insight into how human
beings behave and whether they choose the righteous path in their lives
or not.
