For me and my experiences, science conveys a materialistic view of the
world that denies the existence of any reality outside the material world.
Science is incompatible with my religious faith. I do not reject science. I
am in awe of the wonderful achievements of science. It is important for
me to properly understand both because science and religion concern
different matters. The extent of science in the world of nature and
is observed indirectly and directly by our senses. Outside the world of
nature, science has no authority over religious beliefs. It does not offend
me that science is materialistic.
Quincey (2006) explains science tests its theories and produces reliable,
predictable, and practical knowledge. However, why should we trust that
knowledge just because science says so we are more likely to have a truer
reason of reality than we get from spiritual insight?
Sometimes science can be contradicting to bring about confusion. I do not
like the integration of other knowledge that does not lead me to the truth
of God (Jesus) Who is the true King, and the creator of everything that
exists. If there is anything that strays away from the truth of the Bible, I
will reject it, completely. The world has taken and caused a lot of
confusion with the gift of wisdom and knowledge. Entwistle (2015)
expresses Christianity is much more than theology. The Bible teaches us
that wisdom is only a prayer away (James 1:5). Although most of us will
never be rocket scientists, we can all come to understand the meaning of
life by turning from worldly ways. Jesus Christ calls us to be as wise and
keen as serpents, but it is nothing like the world's wisdom. Godly wisdom
is sincere, peace-loving, gentle, innocent, and full of mercy that is willing
to accept others. For believers, wisdom is not just having certain qualities
of experience, knowledge, and good judgment. This type of wisdom comes
from God Himself, who is the source of all wisdom, understanding, and
counsel.
