Rapport and Relational Alignment
To build rapport means to obtain a firm foundation within the bond of
counselor/counselee. When it comes to Bruce’s story, I presently evaluate his story to seek the
healthier conclusive solution. Bruce’s recommended option is stay openminded, dedicated, and
fully focused on the processes. From careful consideration for his positional behavior, I realize
the assignment is vital that I make sure my own behavior is properly aligned with Bruce. In
evaluation of my personal common moments of the way I handle problems must be realigned
and therefore help advance Bruce by developing an alignment of his own when handling
problems. It is mandatory for me to have commonality with Bruce. It would be most beneficial
for him so that Bruce's choices are applicable and attainable.
Based on Bruce’s response, we share personality styles. It is pleasant when people
acknowledge their authoritativeness and decisions yet holding a supportive stance. Bruce’s
sessions may comprise of listening effectively, encouraging him into a lead role, and yielding
innovative feedback as necessary. Kollar (2011) mentions, “A good word to describe how a
solution-focused counselor listens is to think of it as attentive listening.” It has the quality of
cautious and alert listening; which is the ideal of active listening (Kollar, 2011). Bruce should
never feel that his choices and revelations are a diversion or conflicting.
Phase Two Distinctive Features
Purpose/Goal: To develop Bruce’s preferred story; identify his wants, needs, and conclude what
can be a reality and effective process of total healing.
Chief Aim:
Role/Responsibility/Guiding Assumptions:
By uncovering contrasts by way of how the counselee has seen his issue, I present an
alternative perceptual recognition (Kollar, 2011). “A change in meaning is a change in
experience” (Walter and Peller 1992, 26), that is, any alteration in how the counselee sees the
issue could result in a reevaluation of the experience of that issue (Kollar, 2011). Losing loved
ones and having to divert and reassemble one’s life in such a sudden manner can cause post
traumatic syndrome. On the off chance I alter Bruce’s viewpoint and the meaning of this whole
incident, discovering the purpose, he might be able to better process all the problems that comes
alongside the afterlife of such a tragic incident.
Supportive Feedback Break
Compliments uncover the counselor’s will to encourage positive activities and pinpoint
the counselee’s qualities of strength. Moreover, they aid diminish any fears the counselee may
considerably have about such counseling processes, which in turn may equip the counselee to act
on the objective and task at hand (Kollar, 2011).
Phase Two Marker
The reason for stage two is to empower Bruce to imagine his selective story without any
problems. In order to accomplish this, I would establish a format of common practices to make
Bruce’s preferred story reasonably realistic. Let us figure out a few sensible and realistic
objectives for him, which would be a great marker to achieve these things successfully. I must
foresee any future problems that might take place lest to avoid disappointment. Now I know
everything is not idealize, I must make the necessary adjustments, cause them to come to past,
and making future adjustments to maintain what is necessary. I make persistent adjustments
because I know the counselee is ever changing. The counselor is continuously welcoming the
counselee to grasp the opportunity to change in such a way which leads towards solution rather
than toward a continuation of the problem (Kollar, 2011). Bruce must remain a willing
participant through it all.
Food For Thought
Presently and once more, applying coordinating procedures makes one feel awkward at
times. This can be on account that when an individual encounter such trauma in their lives,
helping them address the problem can be greatly troublesome to deal with such a strategy or
formal approach. On some occasions, it may even appear unbelievable. Within the story, for
example, Bruce has suffered not only the loss of his better half, but also his daughter, it is more
difficult to have a talk with a man who has experienced a loss in such a capacity. This is a
detrimental knowledge and one may end up effected for those affected. This ruler of scenario
may make those impacted succumb powerless. By the day's conclusion, the exhorting session
will not fill its sole requirement, which is submitting a plan to the people who have been
impacted. How do I apply counseling methods, make them normalized, and not uncomfortable?
It is within the craftsmanship of getting to know one another. Until one is fully comfortable with
the other, it will not become normalized and can remain uncomfortable at times. I must create
normalcy, yet inquiring legitimate questions, listen affectively and displaying affective solutions,
and therefore building trust.
