Introduction
The ministry of the prophet Isaiah has been previously explored and will be expounded
upon further. The significance of the timing of Isaiah’s ministry, the setting of his ministry, and
the impact that his ministry had on his audience will be explored. The principle of Isaiah’s
ministry will also be applied to the modern setting. The “Practical Application” segment will be
addressed from the first-person perspective. Research will be followed by an overall conclusion.
God’s Redemptive Mission
Isaiah 53 (NKJV)1 specifically focused on the details of Jesus’ suffering and death on the
cross. Jesus suffered and died as a debt payment for all sin. Isaiah 53 stated, “But He was
wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities (v. 5)2”. Therefore, Isaiah
(NKJV)3 has provided a prelude to God’s redemptive mission in Christ.
Significance of Timing
According to Robert B. Chisholm (2009)4, the timing of Isaiah’s ministry is highly
significant because Isaiah prophesied about the suffering and death of Jesus after he prophesied
to Israel about a “Servant (v. 7)5” in Isaiah 49 (NKJV)6. Isaiah 49 (NKJV)7 specifically referred

to God as “the Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One (v. 7)8.” Douglas W. Kennard (2020)9 stated
that Isaiah’s ministry began at the end of King Uzziah’s reign and ended at the beginning of
King Sennacherib’s invasion (Kennard, 2020)10.
Ministry Setting
Isaiah 1 (NKJV)11 indicated that Isaiah’s ministry was set in Jerusalem (v. 1)12, and his
ministry lasted for forty years. Isaiah ministered under the reign of King Uzziah, King Jotham,
King Ahaz, King Hezekiah, and King Manasseh. All of the rulers during Isaiah’s ministry were
rulers of Judah.
Impact on Audience
Isaiah chose to utilize his ministry as a means to call the original audience to repent of all
sin and to turn to the Lord. However, Chisholm (2009)13 stated that the original audience
responded to Isaiah’s ministry with retaliation and persecution instead.
Practical Application
I have never really considered the unique timing of my life ministry today. However, I
have previously found myself in ministry pursuits in the past, such as missionary objectives.
Mission trips must be planned months in advance. But my intention is still to lead the lost to

hope in Jesus Christ during every mission planning phase. Although I’m pursuing a Master of
Divinity degree and a ministry role as a Chaplain, I still want to be intentional in engaging others
in ministry opportunities during the journey. I am currently ministering as a Soldier in the United
States Army while I am located in Fort Moore and Columbus, GA. My choice to preach the
gospel has been met with a combination of salvation and adversity. God is currently working in
and through me to share His love and kindness with others.
Conclusion
Summary
God has indicated His redemptive mission through Isaiah in multiple aspects of His
ministry. The same principles of Isaiah’s ministry still apply to ministry today.
Commentary
I will continue to live the rest of my life sharing the message of redemption and my story
of the way that God redeemed me.
