Introduction
Reading the Bible is no different because it was composed by several authors with
different personalities and cultural backgrounds, at a particular time, for a specific type of reader,
and preconceptions can prevent one from fully understanding and interpreting the Scriptures.
According to Klein, Blomberg, and Hubbard, making sense of the Bible is "difficult and often
puzzling."1 We may have no trouble articulating the words of the Bible, but we struggle to agree
on what they mean. To make matters worse, contemporary Christians rarely agree on whether
they should let the Bible's teachings shape their daily lives. Reading ancient texts or interpreting
