Research Proposal: The Sovereignty of God and the Free Will of Man
1. A Working Thesis Statement
The bible talks of the absolute power that God has upon our lives, which makes us think that we
may think that we are completely disabled and have no control over our lives and destiny.
However, the same scripture has on several verses talking about our freedom to make choices
and decisions concerning our lives. This paper will thoroughly study the two principles and
determine if one of them overrides the other, as well as ow Christians living under God's
salvation, should live a life of balance between God's sovereignty and exercising free will.
2. The Need For The Study
The bible teaches about God's sovereignty and human beings' free will. However, there have
been conflicting interests in these two doctrines. On the one hand, God is completely in charge of
everything that happens in our lives and every situation that we face. On the other hand, human
beings have been created with the freedom to choose what is right and wrong depending on their
judgment, following the set rules and standards, both in the bible and in the country law. Where
then do these two principles work together in the life of a believer for the salvation to be
achieved?
3. The Procedure of the Study
This study will begin by examining the existing literature on the sovereignty of God and man's
free will. It will examine what the bible says about the two principles and the existing criticism.
The paper will then use existing research to offer recommendations on how believers should
understand the two principles and how to balance them to lead a fruitful, successful, and
fulfilling Christian life here on earth. The main subtopics that will be covered are as follows
3
1. Introduction
2. Discussion
2.1 Meaning of God's sovereignty
2.2 Human responsibility according to God's sovereignty
2.3 Meaning of free will of man
2.4 How free is man's free will
2.4 How God's sovereignty and men's free will work together
