In my profession it is imperative that we all work together as a team to accomplish a
shared goal. As a member of the U.S. Army I know that personal conflicts among coworkers can
definitely hinder the success of the overall mission. We all depend on each other to help and must
work as a cohesive unit. This is why I have chosen to address the problem I am currently
experiencing with a coworker.
Within my team we have individuals who are chosen to guide the rest of the team, in our
day to day activities. We currently have a team leader whom I am experiencing some difficulties
with. While is the team leader’s responsibility to keep the team on track and ensure that daily
goals and missions are being accomplished, we are all equally qualified and are adults. Overall
as a team we work to ensure all of our daily responsibilities and tasks are completed
satisfactorily. I particularly take great pride in the work that I do and strive daily to be better. I
continuously try to look for ways to help others and beyond what is required of me.
With that being said, I would describe my team leader as an extreme micro-manager.
With team members who he considers to be his buddies, the team leader is tolerant and lax.
While with others who would just be considered a colleague, he is meticulous and stifling. If
there was a legitimate reason for his micro-managing such as laziness or inexperience, then I
could reason with why he deems it fir to micro-manage. However, this is not at all the case
because the individuals being hoovered over are all self-starters and hard workers. While the
members not being micro-managed are allowed to roam free and force others to make up for
their lack of work. I believe the type of conflict resolution that will be the most effective in this
situation is reconciliation. ( The Peacemaker, 2014). This is an ongoing issue that cannot just be
overlooked, as it is causing friction in the team.
