Overview
Since a research question is the core of any research project or assignment, it will determine your
inquiry, critical analysis, and scholarship within a topic. This question is extremely important since it both
details who you are as a researcher and how you plan to participate in the communities and
conversations surrounding you in your undergraduate career at Liberty.
At a minimum, a strong research question will be clearly written, answerable (feasible), significant to the
human condition, and ethical. If you are still struggling to select a topic, refer to pages 14-16
in Information Now for information about narrowing to a particular research issue.
Here is an example of a research question:
Topic Selection: “Effectiveness of Therapy Dogs”:
Research Question: “How do therapy dogs affect individuals experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic
stress disorder stemming from car accidents?”
Keep in mind a few guidelines for creating your question:
1. Strong research questions explore topics that you care about.
2. Strong research questions explore topics relevant to your academic career.
3. Choose a question that is neither too broad nor too narrow.
4. Choose a question that allows you to take a stance within the issue.
1. By answering the question, you will inherently take a stance.
5. Choose a question that is worth researching.
6. Choose a question that contributes to your academic field.
7. Choose a question that seeks to improve and better the human condition.
Instructions
Using your selected research topic, rewrite that topic into the form of a Research Question. Using a
minimum of 75 words, create a research question, explain why you selected this particular research
question, and then discuss why it is ethical, significant, and pertains to your academic career in a
scholarly, academic paper.

Effectiveness of Antidepressants
How do antidepressants help to manage the increase of depression in modern society?
As depression becomes a negative element of modern society and one of the leading
issues of suicides and avoidable deaths, I saw it fit to choose this topic. The topic question
asks the most crucial problem: how antidepressants can help manage the increase in
depression. The research question is relevant to modern times and looks into solving the
depression issue (McCormack & Korownyk, 2018). It will give an in-depth analysis of how
antidepressants can be considered adequate. The question upholds ethical values as it looks
into medication that has already been deemed sufficient by researchers. It is paramount in my
career as it looks into solving issues regarding mental health within society.
