ABSTRACT
In this article “Spirituality and its Relation to Mental Health Outcomes: An
Examination of Youth in Foster Care”, mentions the authors point of view on the effects
of spirituality in the mental health field with youth in foster care. As we began this
article, we will learn the authors research and plan to two of the disciplinarians of
spirituality and mental health environments with youths and their relations to foster care.
There were several examples about youths that were ages 8 to 21 and who were either in
a foster care placement or residential care facility (Makanui, et. al 2019, p. 204). The
purpose of this is to understand the process of youth in foster care adapted with the ood
and the bad when in terms of spirituality or even, having that natural support system. The
authors want to express youths relations to deal with the circumstances by coping,
counseling and even strategies to help them become successful.

Current Study
As we gather the information to form a hypothesis of this study, we must determine what
causes the separation stage. This is separated into two factors. One the researchers have a lot of
coping skills that may have been involved to be affected by their spirituality which mean the
social interaction may be affected directly. The second part shows the hypothesis that is recorded
as to young children externalized and internalized their outcomes (Makanui, et. al 2019, p. 205).
Some may show a higher level of care due to being placed into foster care or residential
facilities. The goal is to solve this purpose and cope with spirituality with natural support that
young children with any mental health support, Social Services, Family consultant, mental health
support staff, foster parents, and teachers. The “participants were 159 youth in foster (n = 76) or
residential (n = 83) care in the state of Missouri (between the ages of 8 and 21 years, [M =
13.59, SD = 3.01 years])” (p. 206). In terms of intellectual disabilities 15 of those participants
were not part of the results (p.206).
Results
As researchers may have several types of results as Social Support Scale for Children
(SSSC). This method has been a moderate with reliability sources to come up with results. None
of the results have a difference in low results for reliability. This gave the researchers a positive
role to determine what is needed for locating the thesis. This study is to make sure this will
conclude with all coping and natural supports to connect with spirituality and adaptive and
maladaptive outcomes. This study is to locate what two mechanisms, coping and social support can
offer in adapted and maladapted settings (p. 209). Young children that are in foster care rarely
communicate with mental health supporters in which they may feel more comfortable with their
classmates. Young children that have experienced residential facilities may have a hard time

connecting spiritually on their own. But it does not mean that young children will not have a chance
to succeed. There is always a possibility to ask young children questions about their spirituality
religion and to make sure they understand what beliefs appropriately. Young children in foster care
are maybe in the situation that they are in due to maltreatment, abuse, neglect, homeless that may
experience some internal factors and external behaviors. Maltreated children that are affected may be
observed with the scores of positive relationships that can have a negative standpoint (p. 210). This
will surely boost up more questions that may need to be address so that the researchers have all the
information that they may need. During the same year, approximately 265,000 children entered the
foster care system for the first time (Oswald, Heil, & Goldbeck, 2010). Although placements in foster
care is ensure the safety and well-being for these children, the experience of being a foster child,
coupled with a history of maltreatment, is related to a host of negative psychological outcomes
(Oswald, Heil, & Goldbeck, 2010). Some may have some highly stressors from moving to one foster
family to another which is a way to see the importance of having a better understanding when it
comes their experiences (p. 212). Natural support system is a strong way in encouraging spirituality
and mental health caregivers in their lives that they can trust and rely on needs (p. 212). And lastly,
give attention that is needed to help focus on the young children to endured and to help needs to be
compromised.
Disciplines
During this study of disciplines, it is determined to allow spirituality or religion and
mental health or psychology to this research. This will help youth in foster care have a better
view in life by having religion in them to help their mental health abilities. However, children in
foster care may suffer a mental health disorder as well and may need additional help to give a
better understanding on mental health youth. Having the ability to integrate two disciplines or
even areas of studies. This will give a better outcome for the issues that may come across this

aspect. In the process of interdisciplinary it is used to have a search to be defined by Repko and
Szostak (2019), having to be able to respond to this strategy will give a general idea to the needs
of the problem, however it is the only way the problem will be resolved devised (p.79). The
article had the information provided but could have been more with better results.
