Methodology
I will be doing my research about the effect of knowing a second language in the workplace
concentrated to employees in the state of Florida. Quantitative data is a numerical data that is
collected through responses of different yes or no questions in a survey. It provides an in-
depth information. Using the data obtained from the surveys will provide evidence if bilingual
employees in Florida get pay more than non-bilingual employees. Giving a survey to a minimum
of 100 bilingual employees in Florida. The larger the sample size, the more significant it will be
and there will be less change that your result was caused by a coincidence.
Rationale
Researching the effect of knowing a second language in the workplace is a great way to see if
bilingual people have the benefit of higher pay due to the fact that they know another language.
Providing a survey to Florida employees will help us understand in easy, fast and clear way if
they do or do not get a higher pay than non-bilingual employees. Surveys are cost-effective and
efficient. Surveys are good in describing the characteristics of a population and can be done in

many different modes, including online surveys, emails surveys, social media surveys, telephone
surveys, paper surveys and face to face surveys. We can find plenty of information and even
surveys on how beneficial is two speak more than on language. I have seen studies showing that
bilingual people are better multitaskers, are more likely to be hired over someone that is not
bilingual, that bilingual people are an asset to the company and due to the fact, that in the last 30
years the world economy has become multicultural and more global bilingual employees are
essential in a company. The question is, do they get paid more for the ability to be able to
communicate in more than one language across different cultures? Is hard to know that because
we often hear and read that bilingual employees should because they are officering something
extra to the company but there is not a survey than can prove that yet. Bu doing this survey we
will be able to see if being bilingual is an advantage not only to the company but to the employee
too. With the workplace becoming more multilingual is important to know if you are getting paid
what you should base on what you offer to the company, and if we can prove that bilingual
people get paid more employees will be interested in learning a new language and will make the
companies more capable to adapt to the new changes of global workplaces.
