SIN CONFRONTING 2
Sinning in the community defines a major event existing among various individuals. This
situation facilitates more irresponsible people who cause more harm to the victims of their acts.
Besides, sinning significantly affects the globe. Thus, the need to design various ways of
confronting sin arises to ensure the well-being of multiple people. This discussion evaluates the
nature of Christian counsellors, overlooked cautions in counselling, and the analysis of Jim's case
to deliver more knowledge on sin confrontation.
Based on the lectures and McMinn, why can't a sensitive Christian counselor just
automatically and quickly confront obvious sin in the counselee's life?
A Christian counsellor should be aware of the type of client to counsel and the forms of
sin to confront in the clients. Also, one should effectively analyze the form of approach to utilize
when advising the client. Trained counselors should only use confrontation since they are
equipped with adequate skills on the most effective style of confronting different clients.
Therefore, the most significant factor, in this case, defines the method used rather than just doing
the confrontation. The strategy employed should link to the purpose of the client's reason for
seeking counseling. Multiple approaches may be used to mitigate sin in various individuals, like
questioning, silence, direct censure, and pondering (McMinn, 2011). Effective counselors
evaluate the clients' needs decide on the best approach to apply to yield the desired results.
Therefore, sensitive Christian counselors may not quickly and automatically confront sin among
individuals due to the lack of relevant skills.
Of the cautions mentioned by the course materials, which ones do you think
counselors most often overlook?
SIN CONFRONTING 3
Counselors mostly overlook the following cautions during their efforts to confront sins.
The individuals have limited awareness of themselves when approaching the clients. Therefore,
the guides rarely take time to understand their motivation and attitude towards the clients.
Advisors should humbly approach their clients. The presence of humility guides the guiders to
put themselves in the clients' shoes to ensure they formulate effective counseling methods and
ideas. The instructors should be motivated to help their clients by all means. The other most
overlooked caution explains the power dynamics of the clients. Here, the counselors should
evaluate their weaknesses, limitations, and strengths. Therefore, the professionals put the factors
in the proper perspective to ensure they do not interrupt sin confronting. The two parties should
create a relationship where the client depends on the counselor. The interaction does not
necessarily need to be formal throughout but sometimes makes jokes that motivate the client to
inquire more. Instead of making any changes and choices based on their perspectives, the
professionals should base them on the discussion.
Case study
As a counselor, I would utilize the following strategy to confront sin in Jim. First, I
would critically consider my attitude towards Jim by making it positive despite his behavior.
Since Jim has undergone more counseling sessions, I would inquire from a more skilled
counselor than me. The effort promotes the creation of more knowledge in tackling Jim’s
challenge. Also, Jim lacks self-awareness since he does many things out of control, like drug
abuse. The individuals lack the mind of feeling remorseful or having the will to seek repentance
for any wrongdoing. The decision to pray for him would be effective (Brewer, & Peters, 2019).
Besides, I would work to facilitate a change in his mind. The change of mind requires offering
advice based on the ideas I acquire from more specialized counselors.
SIN CONFRONTING 4
In conclusion, sinning defines a typical behavior among various individuals. A Christian
counselor may fail to confront sin in an individual. This situation emanates from a lack of
knowledge on the best method for the client. Most counselors overlook two major cautions
during counseling activities. The specialists fail to understand their self-awareness during their
counseling. Also, the personnel fails to effectively check on the clients' dynamic power by
developing an attitude that assists them.
