SENIOR ABUSE AND NEGLECT
Our aging population necessitates high demand for elderly caregivers at home or in
nursing homes. As part of the responsibilities of the Government Accountability Office (GAO),
senior citizens are constantly examined for their risks, including housing insecurity, racial and
ethnic disparities, and federal programs to combat abuse, neglect, homelessness, and differences
l. A safe, dignified, and respectful life is the right of everyone, especially the older generation
“Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God; I am the
Lord” (Leviticus 19:32). Therefore, it is essential to prepare for demographic shifts and ensure
adequate provision of programs and support measures to assist vulnerable groups in this situation
“Even to your old age and grey hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you
and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you” (Isaiah 46:4).
In older people's relationships where trust is expected, senior abuse is the act of harming
or distressing them, whether it is a single act, repeated acts, or an absence of appropriate action.
An individual could be abused emotionally, physically, financially, sexually, abandoned, or
neglected by the responsible party regarding their health and well-being. However, abuse can
happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any time, regardless of the person's race, sex, age, religion,
or ethnic or cultural background; this mistreatment can be through strangers, family members,
caregivers, friends, or health care providers. The condition mainly affects people who rely on
others for support in daily activities. Frail individuals are prone to be targeted effortlessly as
adults who cannot attend to self-care properly. Especially those with no family or friends and
disabilities, memory problems, and dementia. Those who cannot fight back an attack or rise to
bullying, as well as loss of hearing and sight. In the U.S., hundreds of thousands of seniors over

60 are abused, financially exploited, and neglected annually; authorities receive reports
periodically, and many incidents go unreported. Aged adults are sometimes ashamed and afraid
to report mistreatment or avoid reported incidents returning to the oppressor and worsening the
situation or creating more chaos “To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a
witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed” (1 Peter 5:1).
By focusing on senior abuse and neglect, I hope to modify people's perceptions or raise
awareness and provide guidance to and for those who have aging parents or relatives. Senior
abuse is what many people witness daily but ignore. Nevertheless, being conscious of a messy-
looking adult with unwashed hair or dirty clothes is essential. Adults who lose weight for no
reason stop participating in their enjoyable activities and become withdrawn or act agitated or
services is to provide quality and dependable services by diligent and God-fearing professionals
and have the most trusted and passionate caregivers for long-term care, recovery from illness, or
aging. Also, further assisting their daily activities, companionship, and enhancement of
independence and quality of life, showing love and integrity. I once had the opportunity and
experience of working in an adult facility. My aims and objectives now are to inform future
generations what it means to be elderly and dependent on others by highlighting the abuse and
neglect of the elderly population. The Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Health &
Human Services (HHS OCR) has recently shared a "new proposed rule implementing the Health
Care Rights Law (HCRL), a national policy for improving health care for all, also known as,
Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. As well as providing a platform for preventing and
redressing discrimination against older adults, the HCRL and its implementing regulations are
essential in helping older adults, especially ethnic minorities, immigrants, and those with limited
English proficiency (LEP). Likewise, disabled people and LGBTQ+ individuals face health care

settings that lead to poor health outcomes, which they can express by sharing their stories and
comments on "My Care Counts."
"Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone" (Psalm 71:9)
