The Issue of Juuling/Vaping
Juuling is a device that is used to inhale nicotine. These devices come in various flavors
of liquid nicotine that youths tend to want because they like the flavors and are highly addictive
chemicals. Juuling devices are also called E-cigarettes and the nicotine is in liquid form. E-
cigarettes are very popular amongst youth and are very unsafe. Furthermore, nicotine affects
brain development and can lead to further use of other addictive substances (Truth Initiative,
n.d.). It is extremely important to keep youths aware of the effects of juuling/vaping. There are
more than 2.5 million middle and high school students who vape daily and cause harm to their
mind and body. Juuling is easily accessible to youth, especially when adults who vape around the
youths, it tends to lead youths follow into their steps. These devices are also easy to use and
maintain because there are disposable vapes and there are also some that require pods to insert
the juice that don’t require much work. The issue is how youths are getting these devices; how
they are able to buy these devices as minors. It is illegal to sell Juuls/vaping devices to minors,
but minors are still being able to get these devices. Many minors either take it from an adult or
there are adults that sell to minors illegally.
Health Implications
A lot of people who use Juul’s or vape are risking their health, but some may now know
the risks. Vaping can cause brain development issues because the brain is still trying to mature.
Nicotine is very addictive and is very harmful for adults and especially youths. E-cigarettes
contain very harmful chemicals that can cause cancer and irreversible lung damage (Association,
A. L., 2023). Even if the risks are explained to youths, they still vape and disregard the health
risks. Addiction to juuling can lead to further addiction to alcohol or even other substances.
Furthermore, addiction can affect the brain and body and impact focus. There are dangers linked
to vaping to include asthma, cigarette use, organ damage, and secondhand exposure, but there are
more. All these health risks can also lead to death because vaping can increase the chances.
There are hundreds of hospitalizations connected to Juul’s/vaping.
Moral/Biblical Implications
Vaping or Juul’s were created recently in today’s world, it has not been around long but
the Bible states in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the
Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were brought
with a price. So glorify God in your body”. Therefore, God may not have said “Do not vape”, but
in other words, he expressed to respect our bodies and what we intake because it is a gift and a
treasure. We choose and decide what we want to put into our bodies, however all is asked of us is
respect and when someone chooses to vape and harm our own bodies then, that is not respecting
our body and mind.
Societal Issues
Vaping is harmful and raises health risks for individuals, especially young individuals.
Minors should not have to worry or think about addictions at such a young age, but in today’s
world it is impossible to keep away from. A few years ago, with the pandemic emotionally and
socially, our society was extremely affected. Lots of individuals were affected mentally and
collapsed into addiction because they felt alone and stressed over the economy decline. Social
and emotional health is not how it used to be before the pandemic, therefore, society has leaned
towards vaping and other substances because of the effects of COVID-19. The pandemic caused
closures and stressors for everyone and caused difficulties to continue normal routines.
Therefore, many hit bottom ground and began vaping and led to additional substances including
youths because school closures caused social damage, and many don’t know how to ask for
support. Society was affected and will continue to be affected until we eliminate all sorts of
Juul’s/vaping. As mentioned before, Juul’s are a new thing and can be withdrawn at any point.
The liquid nicotine that put into the pods of E-cigarettes can always be altered in different ways,
and many don’t know what it may contain. To conclude, Juul’s and vaping are a danger to our
society.
