Analysis of Major Event Assignment
The United States of America face yet another major blow on April 15, 2013, when the
yearly Boston marathon accrued. Two young terrorists caused many deaths and critically
wounded many lives of many. This was one major event with thousands of people where it
became hard to keep everyone safe plus people thought it was part of the marathon. However,
after this bombing, certain requirements were put into place when America has large events
being prepared, and planning for major events such as this will cause America to be ready when
such things happen. The terrorists planning this attack took over a year in planning they studied
our every move and found our weaknesses. They created two homemade booms made from
everyday cook wear that you can get from Walmart. When these bombs blow up within about 12
seconds of each other. This was about 210 yards away that about six footballs near the finish line
America were not ready for the attack. The names of the two men are Tamerlan and Dzhokar
Tsarnaev they were brothers that planned this attack. Our own emergency department was not
prepared in any way to attack such as this.

Mitigating and Preparing
We know that all parts of the emergency plan are important and should be carried out in order
to be successful to make sure that we stay on our toes when it comes to big events such as this.
When looking at the Boston marathon it was handled in the best way that they knew how to
being that there was no plan in place for if something like this happens.
Looking at the medical staff that was on site, they weren’t equipped to handle a situation of this
magnitude. The response to the bombing was that lessons were learned in the sense that we have
to have a better plan and become more aware of the things going on around us. Looking at the
hospital we can see that they weren’t prepared at all and there weren’t enough beds for the
people that were injured. They should have moved the existing patient to another area of the
hospital while also increasing the nursing help with victims. “Although ICU resources were
needed for many patients, there was sufficient time to move existing patients out of those
occupied beds turn over the rooms, and prepare the staff for the victim” (Tomberg, 2015)
Response and Recovery
During the response phase, we found that the government sent out homeland security
and the FBI. The whole state was on lockdown. Homeland Security’s job is to him people that
have been impacted by any major incident. However, I feel that this job was incomplete just
because there was not a plane in place. The response to the Boston bombing was delayed once

again; there was no plan in place for a situation like this to happen. We find that response also
includes the execution of emergency plans and actions to support short-term recovery. However,
that level of response also depends on the level of circumstances and the conditions of the area.
When looking back at the Boston bombing it’s almost incomprehensible that the government
could have failed so miserably when it comes to the response and recovery. We also know that
it’s just as important as the homeland professional as planning and preparation. As we look at
how the government moves, we should also make changes they may need to embed the response
and recovery phase into the planning and preparedness phase.
The point of the recovery phase is the functions that will help bring that state back to whole those
functions are identification, coordination, and delivery of federal aid which will also come from
the private sector and the nonprofit sector. From our reading in the textbook, we know that
incidents begin and end locally, and most are wholly managed to eat the local level (Nemeth
2021). We know that as the years go by the incident itself may continue to change in size, scope,
and complexity. However, the response must learn to adapt to and meet the requirement of the
incident.
Biblical Perspective
What does the bible tell us about the times that we are currently in and how should we move
accordingly? God gives us passages to read during times of worry. He talks about this phase in
the bible In Psalms 106:30 he tells us that “But Phinehas has stood up and intervened, and the
plaque was checked (NIV). When breaking this down in simple terms it means that Phinehas

stepped in and took control of the situation to prevent any further harm to the people. The next
point is in 2 Corinthians 10:6 which tells us about being prepared. The verse says “ And we will
be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete (NIV)’
Conclusion
We see that the bible gives was to be confident in what God has for us. Also learning to read
his every word. We learned that our local, federal, and private sectors should also start playing
their parts and being one when it comes to all phases of emergency management. We know that
communication is the key to success in any level and that is what we have to start doing.
