HIEU 202 DT History, Science and the Biblical Worldview
When it comes to science and religion it can be hard for people to mix the two; you either believe in
science or religion. There are a few ways that I could see how the Biblical worldview could impact the
relationship between religion and science. With advancements in science, it is hard for religion to accept
its findings. Discoveries in human anatomy and astronomy have been different than what is taught in
church/religion, and it has caused problems within churches because people were given a view rooted in
science, not in faith. The text's authors clearly distinguish religion and science because of how they were
viewed during those times. Science and religion often disagree and are at odds with one another. In
chapter seventeen, the authors list the first intellectual thinkers of the time and how the church
disagreed. When looking at the Biblical worldview and how it impacts the relationship between science
and religion there are three ways to look at it. The first way is that a person is deeply religious and sees
how God creates everything so for every question about science they would be able to answer it in a way
that says, “God made it happen” or “God spoke it into existence.” This approach speaks volumes to this
person's faith and trust in God. Secondly, you can have someone who does not believe in God at all, they
solely rely on scientific evidence to back up everything. This person has no regard for faith. And lastly,
there is someone who puts science and religion together. If we look at how the world works you can tie
it directly with the Bible. One of these examples is of Noah and the flood, there is scientific evidence that
backs up what is told about the flood in the Bible. This is just one example but there are many other
examples that can help people see how science and religion can be tied together.
