Introduction
This paper will be discussing Calina Plotky’s candidacy for U.S. Representative for
Georgia’s 13th congressional district. Plotky will be running in the Republican primary for this
seat in May of 2022. She will be challenging 20 year democrat incumbent David Scott. Plotky is
a Georgia attorney and currently residing in Atlanta. She has extensive experience in
immigration and business law. She believes that there is a lot of work to be done in Washington
D.C.. Her position on important issues include working to fix how the government functions,
putting a stop the outrageous and frivolous spending, and working to provide affordable
education to create a competitive workforce again (Team Calina, 2021).
District
“Georgia’s 13th Congressional District is located in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area and encircles
the city. It includes all of Douglas County, and portions of Clayton, Cobb, Fayette, Fulton, and
Henry counties” (Ballotpedia, 2021). In 2019 it “had a population of 803k people with a median
age of 35 and median household income of $66,203” (Data USA, 2021). 94 percent of the people
that reside in this district are citizens (Data USA, 2021). 60.5 percent of this district’s population
is black or African American (Data USA, 2021). 13.4 percent of people in this district live below
the poverty line which is “higher than the national average of 12.3%” (Data USA, 2021). The
largest race living in poverty in this district is black followed by white and Hispanic (Data USA,
2021). This district tends to lean towards democratic candidates in elections. Plotky’s views
reflect the desires of the district despite her being a republican candidate.
Support of Interest Groups and PAC’s
Political action groups (PAC’s) and interest groups are crucial to any political campaign
because they provide financial aid through donations. It would be beneficial for Plotky to gain
the support of the PAC known as Right Group. They are known for their generous support of
right leaning candidates at the federal level. To gain their support I would simply pitch Plotky’s
views and positions as I do not see any reason why they would not support them. It would also
help to get the support of the Black Caucus if at all possible. They would be vital in helping
Plotky get the support from black voters in her district. To gain the support of this interest group
I would really sell and present how Plotky’s positions on important issues will benefit the black
population in the district in a factual manner.
PAC’s and Interest Groups Against
One interest group that Plotky would need to be protected from is the Black Lives Matter
Atlanta group. They are a left leaning group that will do everything in their power to try and keep
her from winning this race because she is a white woman running for a congressional seat in the
majority black district. I would protect Plotky from this interest group by keeping a close eye on
anything that is put out against her to be able to act quickly to correct any misinformation about
her or her positions. This is because this group is known for slandering right leaning candidates
and putting out incorrect information about them to secure votes against them. Another group
that Plotky would need to be protected from is the Really American PAC. During the last senate
race this group crowdfunded a billboard campaign “that urged President Trump’s supporters not
to back GOP candidates Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in the state’s crucial runoff election”
(Barrabi, 2020). I would protect Plotky from this group by making sure that her and her
supporters are vocal about her positions and the importance of voters voting.
