Presentation Assessment: Attacks on Christianity Assignment
President Reagan had a Christ-centered and hopeful outlook on America and presents a
sharp contrast with the current President of the United States, Joe Biden. This contrast is evident
in various aspects of governance. Goeglein highlights three major attacks on the Christian
foundations of America: the institution of marriage, the sanctity of preborn lives, and religious
liberty and the rights of conscience. These attacks challenge core Christian values and principles,
with abortion being a prime example, seen as a breach of both God's commandment, 'Thou shalt
not kill,' and the constitutional principle that 'All men are created equal.' In this context, Goeglein
emphasizes the role of Christians in addressing these challenges, asserting that America is not
currently moving in the right direction. Therefore, it becomes imperative for Christians to stand
up for their beliefs and values, advocating for change that aligns with their faith.
According to Goeglien, Ronald Reagan was very serious about the greatness and
potential of America. One of the most utilized phrases in the speeches he used was, “This
Country was as a city shining on a hill.” Ronald Regan was making a direct comparison between
the power and luminosity of the Christian faith and the direction of the United States of America.
The outlook Ronald Reagan had on America is extremely different from the President of the
United States at this moment. Ronald Reagan believed that the Bible and the Christian faith were
very important for the future of America. Joe Biden takes the Bible completely out of all his
decisions and does everything the Bible is against. Joe Biden is destroying the greatness and
potential of America every day. Regan was pro-allies development while Biden is not. Regan
was particularly strong on growing the American economy, however, Biden is not. On
immigration, Reagan was historically pro-immigration control while Biden is a staunch
immigration reformer in the opposite direction.
There is an attack on the institution of marriage. This attack happened on June 26, 2015,
in a courtroom during the court case of Obergefell v. Hodges. On this day, the court ruled in
favor of Obergefell which declared same-sex marriage legal. The Bible talks about what true
marriage is in Matthew 19:4-6, “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator
‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother
and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one
flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate” (NIV). Only one man and
one woman can get married, rather than two people of the same sex getting married. There is an
attack on pre-born babies. This attack started on January 22, 1973, in a courtroom during the
court case of Roe v. Wade when the court ruled in favor of Roe which made abortion legal for up
to 9 months. Since that day, 55 million babies have been ruthlessly murdered by abortion
doctors. The Bible talks about us being alive while we are in the womb in Psalms 139:13, “For
you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb” (NIV). There is an
attack on religious liberty and the rights of conscience. One of these attacks started in a bakery in
2015 when the owner refused to bake a cake for a same-sex couple. The owner won the court
case originally; however, on June 2, 2018, in a courtroom during the court case of Masterpiece
Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission the Supreme Court reversed its decision and the
store owner lost the case. Acts 5:29 says, “Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey
God rather than human beings” (NIV)! This verse makes a clear mandate that believers' priority
is obeying God.
Abortion is an evil and despicable act that ends the life of an innocent baby. The
Constitution says all men are created equal, therefore, the Constitution does not support abortion
since it does not give a pre-born baby the same equality as a born person. Abortion also goes
against one of the most important commandments which is found in Exodus 20:13 which says,
“You shall not murder” (ESV). Abortion is the taking of an innocent life, which categorizes the
medical procedure of abortion as murder in direct opposition to God’s word. However, today,
many court cases are helping fight the terrific act of abortion. South Carolina's "heartbeat"
abortion ban on February 18, 2021, made abortions illegal after 6 weeks in Ohio. In 2021 The
Texas Supreme Court ruled abortion to be illegal after 6 weeks of pregnancy in Texas. Most
importantly, Roe v. Wade which is the court case that made abortion legal was overturned in the
summer of 2022, which gave states the option to completely ban abortion.
This country is not moving in the right direction. It is being corrupted by evil laws being
made by evil people. As Christians, we can be bold about our faith and Christian principles. We
can fully strive to honor God in everything we do, bringing the honor that is due to Him. We can
be agents of change as we seek to change these evil laws by emailing legislators or even
becoming a politician.
In conclusion, President Reagan's faith-centered and optimistic vision for America stands
in stark contrast to the approach of the current President, Joe Biden, in various aspects of
governance. As outlined by Goeglein, three significant challenges to the Christian foundations of
America; marriage, the sanctity of preborn lives, and religious liberty directly challenge
fundamental Christian values. The issue of abortion, for instance, is viewed as a violation of both
God's commandment, 'Thou shalt not kill,' and the constitutional principle that 'All men are
created equal.' In light of these challenges, Goeglein underscores the crucial role of Christians in
addressing these issues, as the nation appears to be moving in a direction misaligned with the
Christian faith. It becomes increasingly vital for Christians to actively advocate for change that
reflects their beliefs and values.
