Christian-Rationalism
One will not be wrong to assert that the process philosophy that greatly impacted all
aspect of American life till date is Christian-Rationalism. Indeed, from its derivation from the
French revolution to its implementation in the American Society in the US constitution of
1787 in which, Biblical Christianity played a leading role in the shaping of the Declaration of
Independence (Ferdon, 2014, p.92).
Christian rationalism has impacted all the nooks of the American society shaping it
positively or negatively. The perception of positivity or negativity is relative as, according to
John’s Locke natural right thesis, everyone has the freedom according to the constitution to enjoy
freedom and the pursuit of happiness; this is perceived today at the expense of God’s established
laws as rationalism has drifted God’s authority over His creation to man and its institutions.
Indeed, God is seeing in the lenses of rationalism as “non-personal, non-relational and non-
providential. Not sovereign judge of mankind, redeemer and forthcoming king” (p. 94)
The implication of this concept is observed directly in the economic construct of the
workforce as man is perceived only as a mass of flesh, a machine, entitled to working without
soul, emotions, or feelings: after all, what cannot be appraised by reason and scientific evidence
does not exist. This concept embroiled the relationship between a man and a woman based on
love creating a shift in marriage.
This shift of God’s position to manmade institution and perception has impacted greatly
the area of family in the USA in many areas. Firstly, in marriage, the divine covenant instituted
between man and a woman by God in the garden of Eden with a strong emphasis of divine
bonding and fusing is trampled upon feet’s as a social and human construct, a contractual and
