Introduction
In my last paper, I chose to write about a fictional figure named Anthony who was born
and raised in Mexico most of his life but was brought to America in his teenage years. For the
most part, he and his family still adhere to their cultural roots by observing Día De Los Muertos
(which is the Day of the Dead), throwing Anthony’s younger sister her quinceañera when she
turned 15, and, my favorite part, cooking plenty of Mexican food! Anthony’s native language of
Spanish is how we became such good friends; we met in high school in a Spanish class. Because
I knew very little Spanish, he helped me with my homework while I helped him brush up his
English, though he was already mostly fluent. After high school, Anthony decided not to go to
college, but chose to live with his family in Austin so he could train to become a contractor like
his father.
As we developed a friendship, I learned many things about Anthony and his background
such as he has only experienced a capitalist economy, he was raised in a kinship household but
later became a nuclear family, and that, despite being hundreds of miles from his Mexican roots,
Anthony and his family still find it crucial to honor and observe their ancestors, allowing
Anthony to have both a formal education in Texas and an informal education by reflecting on his
family’s history. Anthony’s family also has several cultural values such as having a cooperative
orientation, a polychronic time orientation, an affective orientation, and being focused on short-
term values. Families with short-term values often “value tradition, the current social hierarchy
and fulfilling their social obligations,” (Grimsley, S., & Allison, J.).
2
Due to their Mexican roots, Anthony and his family grew up speaking Spanish long
before they learned to speak English. Because of this, it took Anthony much time to become
fluent and learn how to not allow his heavy Mexican accent to alter the pronunciation of English
words as best as he can. Though he still struggles sometimes, Anthony speaks English quite well
and has little to no communication issues.
Application of CQ
CQ Drive:
I am motivated to share God’s story with Anthony because he is such a good friend and a
good man, that I want to do everything in my power to ensure that he will be dining with me at
the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. He is already so loving and kind towards his friends and
family, that not only would I be honored to know that I helped bring Anthony to accept Jesus,
but I would also love for our friendship to strengthen each of our spiritual walks with God. I
believe that there is no better friendship than having a friendship in the Lord; Matthew 18:20
even tells us “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
CQ Knowledge:
Since Anthony and I have been friends since high school, there is much about his family
that I have come to learn over the years. I know that much of his family in Mexico is Catholic,
and though I am not a Catholic, that would mean that myself and his family are practicing
Christians. This fact could help appeal to Anthony because not only could he develop a
relationship with God for his sake, but once he has a relationship, he can be bold in his faith to
3
not just me, but to his family as well. I personally think that is huge because many families do
not support others who practice a different religion. But in this case, the opposite would likely
occur: Anthony would be welcomed and embraced by the family because he would be
proclaiming his love for the same messiah his family loves!
CQ Strategy:
I think Anthony could most relate to God’s unconditional love. As I stated before,
Anthony is a very kind and loving man, not just towards his family and friends, but to anyone he
comes in contact with. Because of this, he already has God living inside of him because John
4:16 says “We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love,
and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” Tying along with this, I can assure
Anthony that God loves him because John 3:16 tells us that “For this is how God loved the
world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but
have eternal life.”
Kids from other countries and backgrounds are often made fun of or seen as an outcast in
American grade schools. Though the teachers often try their best to welcome new students, the
kids are brutal and often bully foreign children who seem like an easy target. However, this is
exactly the opposite of God’s love. Anthony can be rest assured, that God loves him however he
is because God made him that way. God does not discriminate or pick favorites because He is
our heavenly father, and He wants us to grow and succeed.
4
CQ Action:
I think the most important thing to keep in mind when trying to evangelize, is to try to not
get upset or impatient when someone is hesitant or if they have questions. Mr. Moyer tells us
“There are three necessities for effective evangelism in 2021. The first is patience, the second is
patience, the third is patience,” (Moyer, L.). Jesus was asked various questions and even the
same questions repeatedly but never once would he say negative things or use a degraded tone. I
would want to try to keep a calm tone and constantly reassure Anthony that I am not trying to
change him, but rather give him a chance for him to know our creator. I do not want to threaten
our friendship or make him feel as though I will push him away if he does not worship my God. I
want to be mindful that it may take time, but I want him to be comfortable enough to reach out to
me whenever he is ready, regardless of how long that may take.
Outline of God’s Story
-Creation: The creation was the original beginning of the universe’s exitance. This
beginning was created by God over a six-day period when on the seventh day, God
rested. (Genesis 1)
-Fall/ Sin: The fall of man, knowns as the first sin, took place when Eve was deceived by
the Serpent (Satan) which resulted in her deliberately disobeying God. When she did,
Adam was close behind to the same. This fall on man leads to all of mankind’s
imperfection, causing the need for a perfect Savior. (Genesis 3)
-Covenant with Abraham: God made a covenant with Abraham in which God offered
protection and land to Abraham and his descendants as long as they followed the path of
God. He also promised blessings, redemption, and eternal life for those that lived in him.
(Genesis 12:-3)
- Covenant with David: God promised to establish David’s dynasty forever. This Davidic
covenant.established David and his descendants as the kings of the united monarchy of
Israel. (1 Kings 8:25)
-Israel: Israel is commonly known as the Promised Land and is the designated nation for
God’s people. When Jesus returns, He will return to the Mount of Olives located in
Jerusalem, Israel. (Genesis 32:28)
5
-The message of the Prophets: In the Bible, the prophets can be seen as God's
messengers. They are called to speak to people on God’s behalf, allowing their messages
to demonstrate God’s desire to be close to His people. (Haggai 1:13; Isaiah 44:26;
Malachi 3:1)
-Virgin Birth: The virgin birth of Mary is ordained by God because Jesus was brought
into this world by a pure woman who was chosen by God. This story of a miracle is
known as the Christmas story. (Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:26-38)
-Incarnation and Deity (fully God-fully man): It is important to know that Jesus is both
fully God and fully man because Jesus was able to fully relate with mankind by
experiencing the same things that humans experience, such as pain, joy, turmoil, etc.
(Titus 2:13-14)
-Jesus’ Life (person and ministry): Jesus was raised in a Jewish community and spent
much of his childhood and teen years listening to rabbis and priests at the temple; so
much so that his own parents lost him because he has spent many hours/ days there. As
he got older, he began to share God’s good news with others, allowing his teachings and
ministry to reach the hearts of God’s children. (Luke 2)
-Jesus’ Death: Jesus’ death was needed to atone for our sins. Through his sacrifice, we
are all able to have a second chance (redemption) and be allowed into the kingdom of
God by accepting Jesus into our hearts and living in the ways of the Lord. (Mark 15: 21–
41)
-Resurrection: On the third day of Jesus’ death, he rose from the dead, defeating Satan.
Because Jesus rose again, this means that, though all of us will die, not all will
experience a second death. Jesus’ atoning death gives all of us the chance to be born
again. (Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-20; Luke 24:1-49; and John 20:1-21:25)
-Ascension: 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection, he rose to heaven to be with his heavenly
father. He.ascended to.the Father.so that we might be restored.to.God as well. (John
3:13)
-Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Holy Trinity in us. By having God’s
spirit with us, we as Christians, are better equipped to determine what is right or wrong
in the eyes of God. (Matt. 12:30-32, Mark 3:28-30, and Luke 12:8-10)
-The Church: The.church.is not a building or a denomination. The.church.is the body of
Christ, which is all those who have placed their faith in Jesus. (1 Cor. 12:13)
-Christ’s Return: Christ’s Return is when Jesus will return to earth in glory. At this time,
He will set his kingdom, reward the faithful and judge his enemies. (Matthew 24–25;
Mark 13; Luke 21:5–26; John 14:25–29)
6
-Our Response to the Gospel: Our response to the Gospel is to be encouraged and wish
to share the good news that we have with others. We give glory to God for Him and His
son and look forward to the day of His son’s return. (Acts 13:38-39)
-Restoration: The restoration in the Bible refers to.restoring the universe back to how
God intended it to be – perfect in His eyes and having the bride and groom become one.
(Jeremiah 30:17)
