The gospel is the story of Jesus and what He did in order to save us all from death. We
are all sinners and we deserve death. Sin first came into the world when man sinned by eating the
fruit God specifically said not to eat. When man ate this fruit, this opened the world to sin
allowing things like adultery, murder, and robbery into the world. For thousands of years man
lived in sin with the only way to repent and save themselves from eternal punishment was
through sacrificing a young, pure lamb to God in a sign of surrender. Throughout the whole old
testament prophesies of a man who would save the whole earth from death and destruction were
made. There would be someone to take the fall for our sin when he truly did not deserve the
punishment.
Then one day a woman, named Mary, was visited by an angel of God who told her she
would become pregnant with a child who would also be known as the Son of God. This child
would go on to become to become the most curious yet educated child on the planet. At a young
age he would spend time in the churches learning more about His heavenly father. Throughout
His life he would perform miracles and always point to God whenever he performed one of these
amazing feats. He constantly glorified God and astounded people by healing the blind, curing the
sick, and bringing the dead back to life. God had blessed this man in incredible ways, but no one
knew He was the Son of God. He never wanted glory for Himself, but when people pointed to
Him for glory, He pointed it right back to God. He was challenged by the devil in the wilderness
and did not eat for 30 days in order to show reverence to His father.
He had a group of his closest, most trusted friends who He chose as his disciples to
follow Him everywhere He went to spread the gospel. He spent three years with those twelve
close friends when one fateful day, one of His disciples betrayed Him for a bag of gold. There
was a group of people who did not want Jesus to continue to perform miracles, so they had a
group of roman guards arrest Him on the grounds that he was falsely calling Himself the Son of
God. He was then brought before the people who decided that He deserved death, even though
just days before they were praising and worshiping Him for all the amazing things He had done.
Jesus, who was as perfect and pure as the lambs the people used to sacrifice to repent for their
sins, was hung on a cross and put to death. His life and His blood paid the price for the sins of all
people. But the story does not stop with His death, Jesus was raised from the dead three days
later. This final act proved that He was in-fact the son of God. Jesus then told His disciples, and
anyone else who would listen, to go out and spread the good news of what God had just done.
Our God loved us so much that He knowingly sent His son to die on the cross for our sins and
we share that story as often as we can.
