Introduction
I have grown up in the Athens, Georgia area all my life. I have watched the downtown
area grow and adapt into a true southern college town. The scenery has changed with the
times, and the historic buildings are getting a face lift and being repurposed as apartments and
condos to house students that attend the ever-growing University of Georgia (UGA,). This
paper will provide a general overview of downtown Athens and the impact UGA has on this
would be small town nestled in Northeast Georgia. The region relevance, location relevance,
movement relevance, and human-environmental interaction relevance will be presented. This
paper will conclude with a brief summary of the points presented.
General Overview
Athens, also known as The Classic City, is a city sustained by education. The
