Wheelchair Basketball. Journal of sport rehabilitation, 27(6), 554–559.

Wilroy and Hibberd wrote the article in 2018 on shoulder injury prevention programs.
Seven wheelchair athletes at the college level participated in an assessment that targeted scapular
muscle strength and shoulder range of motion. The participants were also taught injury
prevention. The program lasted for six weeks, with participants taking the interventions three
times a week. The results show that a stretching and intervention program lasting six weeks may
help reduce the risk for shoulder injuries in athletes.

In 2018, Andreoli and others studied the epidemiology of basketball sports injuries. They
went through 11 articles from the internet, and they did an integrative review on them. They
observed that in basketball, there are 12690 injuries that athletes suffer. The researchers found
out that most injuries (63.7%) occur on the lower limbs of the basketball players, like foot
fractures. Ankle injuries like ankle sprains accounted for 21.9%, while 17.8% were knee injuries.
Around 12-14% represented injuries in the upper limbs.

ANNOTATION ON BASKETBALL INJURIES AND REHABILITATION 3
Molics and others wrote an article in 2017 to determine how effective core training is in
preventing basketball injuries in junior women basketball players. Their attention was mainly on
strengthening trunk muscles, static coordination and dynamic balance improvement, and
stabilizing the balancing ability of trunk muscles. Through the experiments done on 12 women
basketball players, the authors concluded that core training effectively improves static
coordination and dynamic balance and strengthens trunk muscles among basketball athletes.

Rehabilitation. Indian journal of orthopaedics, 51(5), 529–536.

Dhillon and others wrote an article in 2017 about the modern concepts used in sports for
rehabilitation. Due to the evolution of basketball injuries and sports injuries in general, the
orthopaedic surgeon, the sports physiotherapist, and the sports physician have been brought
together to develop ways of rehabilitating players after sustaining injuries. Physiotherapists must
apply modern rehabilitation protocols and supervise the players accordingly, and surgeons do
timely surgical procedures to help the athletes go through their rehabilitations smoothly and
effectively.

Jildeh and others wrote an article in 2020 looking at the possibility that concussion
increases the chances of a basketball player to develop musculoskeletal injury in the acute lower

extremity. The researchers went through data from the 1999-2000 season to the 2017-2018
season and highlighted the injury welfare of players who had concussed 90 days after returning
to play. Results showed that concussed players have an increased chance to suffer ligament tears
and strains within 90 days after they return to play.
