Witnessing Report: Person “C” Assignment

Part One
For the Witnessing Report person “C” assignment, I shared the gospel with my brother
Matteo’s girlfriend, Emily. They have been dating for eight years and just recently moved in
together. I offered to buy dinner from a nice restaurant and hang out with them both at their
apartment. We spent quality time together over a meal and discussed our lives. After talking for
a while, I explained to Emily that I was genuinely embarrassed that I had never had a
conversation with her about faith, as it is the most important thing in my life.
Emily has a catholic background and upbringing but has not really been firmly connected
to faith or been overly pursuant of spirituality. She has joined our family at church on Sundays
on many occasions, but I would again say that my family has never really talked to her more
intentionally about faith. I could listen well and share from a place of understanding as my
brother, Emily, and I have recently been developing a closer relationship.
Part Two
Emily had a very positive reaction, and she could see the authenticity, honesty, and care
that I have for her and my brother. She explained that she had never had things (the gospel) laid
out in a very clear and understandable way and was glad that I was willing to explain it. I
explained that there is always a decision to be made based on the information I shared and was
able to ask if she wanted to make one in light of that. She still has “counting the cost” type of
hesitations, which encouraged me as I honestly felt she would be more opposed to Jesus.
Part Three
I prayed with them before leaving and offered to always be around for questions and
help. I also encouraged Emily to take a small step in reading the Bible (beginning in the gospels),
even if it's just a chapter or two here and there. I have the opportunity to continue these
conversations and invest in Emily and my brother. It is very easy for me to get caught up in the
lifestyle choices that my brother and Emily have made instead of being a witness to who Jesus is
to both of them. I know I should not condone sin, but I also realize that my being condemning is
not okay and will not get them to understand what the heart of the gospel is. That even though
we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, through Jesus, we all can have eternal
life.
This was easily the most encouraging and joyful of all the witnessing assignments of the
course as I was able to be intentional with people I am close with and deeply care about. While
Emily still has a decision to make, I have faith that God will continue to work in her life. I have
been encouraged to be faithful in the opportunities I have to be a good brother and friend to
them and be a good representative of Jesus.
