Our local church is situated in a humble neighborhood. The local elementary school
is located just a quarter of the mile down the road. All the students from the community
attend the school. A partnership has been established between the school and the church so
that proper support can be extended to serve the learners and the faculty members in a
better way. But most importantly, the intention is to share the love of Jesus Christ with
them. Last month, it came into our notice that some of the students do not get any food to
eat after they return from school on weekends. We knew that the matter was serious and
something had to be done to help the kids. So, it was decided that every second Saturday
of a month, a free dinner arrangement would be made. Students would also be allowed to
take food to their homes.
In order to execute the plan properly, a meeting was conducted with the school to
decide the appropriate time to carry out the ministry. We knew that a lot of effort would
be required to conduct the event. They informed us that the last Saturday of the month is
when the issue relating to the shortage of food arises in the homes of most of the students.
So the first date was decided and the school played a key role to advertise the event.
Volunteers were arranged who would be responsible to prepare the food and help in
its distribution. While this step was being taken, we were simultaneously asking for
donations of empty cans or dry goods. We also approached the local grocery store, so that
we could get donations of grains, dairy products, and meat. Christ was really kind as we
succeeded to collect the necessary items which helped to serve almost sixty families.
On the last Saturday, the volunteers had come early so that they could assist in the
distribution of food items to the families who came. Their contribution was of immense
value as they actively participated in serving the guests who had arrived to get the food.
When the dinner time approached, the staff members and the church leaders attentively
took care of the needs of all the families and guests. They went from table to table to know
the families personally who had come to the event. During the entire event, there were
multiple opportunities which helped to share the Gospel with people so that they would
accept the words of Jesus Christ. On that day we were able to help people by offering
adequate food and sharing the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
