EVAN 101
SHARING THE GOSPEL
Part ONE—Preparing to Share the Gospel
Section 1 – Consider the person and the context
I have a friend with whom I feel deeply connected; we share the same disgust toward the
world's evil. We met in high school and have been keeping in touch since then. He is currently
an atheist, even though he used to be Muslim. He claims he was never entirely into Islam which
is why he left it once he left his parents' house. He thinks the world can be better if people are
wise enough to direct their efforts. We had past conversations about God, where he told me that
he believed God must be gentle, kind, and loving.
I plan to share the Gospel with him in an outdoor place where we are surrounded by trees
and can see the sky. If I called him and told him I wanted to share something with him, he would
show up on time. I would only state what I am sharing after the meeting. I have been praying that
God helps and speaks through me; I know my friend needs Jesus. I will start my approach by
showing him clear historical evidence of the crucifixion and the resurrection. That is a great start
that makes people obligated to listen because they prove Christianity is true.
Section 2 – Plan for a conversation
The meeting will be an outdoor meeting in person with no services. We will start by
catching up; then, I will tell him how I have been thinking about his words about God and how I
cannot keep from him that I know a God as good as he wishes, and I want to share that with him.
I know he will listen carefully and not give any reactions until he has fully processed every word.
However, he might feel obligated to resist the idea of Jesus being God and the resurrection.
EVAN 101
I will take a Bible and a notebook with me. I will stress, "And if Christ has not risen, then
our preaching is in vain and your faith is devoid of truth and is fruitfulness." (1 Corinthians 15:
14). I firmly believe this is the best way to strengthen the Christian argument. I will give my
friend time and ask him to contact me when he has fully processed what we discussed. I will
pray to him secretly until I believe he will ask me to pray together one day.
Part TWO—Sharing the Gospel
Section 1 – Describe the event
The meeting was beyond successful. My friend was eager to know more; he had many
questions and even asked me to meet again. At the end of the meeting, he shared his feelings of
being stunned and feeling special that God was trying to talk to him personally through a friend.
I wanted to tell him that the Gospel was the joy of God given to us to make us live above the
world. He said that he always felt that life should have much more than what appears and that
Christianity offers more than the secular world.
He also shared with me how he always thought that nothing fulfilled him and that he
believes what he knows about Christianity is a sign that there is a way to become satisfied and
fulfilled. The success of the meeting was not based on my planning; God undoubtedly guided it.
Even though my friend seemed a bit overwhelmed, he still asked more questions and was eager
to dive deeper. The only point he had problems with was accepting that God is our Eternal
Father, but that is because his secular father was mean to him. I told him that Deuteronomy 1:31
says: "There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way
you went until you reached this place."
EVAN 101
However, he still was fascinated by the idea that he could have a new father that is
responsible and gentle.
Section 2 – Share any lessons.
My experience of sharing the Gospel was positive for my friend and me. Still, next time I
would choose to pray more than plan. We meet every two weeks to discuss his questions and
investigate some spiritual matters. He asked me to pray that God shows Himself to him. The
hardest part of the experience was when my friend cried because of his father. Facing all those
feelings of bitterness, anger, and neglect is very hard, especially when there is nothing to do to
change reality. However, I told him about our hope in Christ renewing our hearts “And I will
give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone
from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36: 26). I think I was prepared; except
that I should have prayed more that God uses me.
My advice is to share the Gospel with as many people as you can, starting by showing the
historical evidence of the crucifixion and resurrection. That way, you save yourself from wasting
time; those who refuse to believe critically evident facts will not think about what else you have
to say. However, those who surrender to the truth of those facts will be willing to hear more and
more.
