Introduction
During the duration of this course and learning about countless ethical theories, the two
that stood out to me the most, especially regarding the topic of abortion, were Duty Ethics and
Christian ethical theory. The two questions in which this paper will seek to answer will be “Can a
Christian be pro-choice?” and “Will Christian ethical theory support a pro-choice stance?”.
Biblically speaking, this topic would be shut down immediately and would never be discussed
from a justification standpoint. This presents an ethical dilemma from a Christian perspective,
but also raises the question as to why we as Christians feel the need to cast judgment upon this
topic when it is taught to express love, understanding, and compassion to our neighbors.
The adopted approach in which will be used, will be in two parts that will firstly detail
Christian ethical theory that can be a helpful tool for Christians in such dilemma. Secondly, it
