1
Does metadata need to be written for all datasets? Explain.
Yes, all datasets must have metadata. Metadata tells one about the actual
data; the scale, the spatial reference, the accuracy to expect, and what
errors to expect.
2
Why do we need a metadata standard?
It is important to have metadata standards so that data is reusable across
many different systems and platforms. Standards make the data easier to
read and access. The FGDC Metadata Standard contains six major sections
about the data.
3
How can data aggregation problematic in a real-world mapping scenario?
Data aggregation can be problematic in a real-world scenario as changing data can
manipulate the accuracy of the data.
1
What is a raster dataset?
A raster dataset is a data model which presents data in a grid fashion. Within
the grid each grid cell contains one attribute or data value.
2
Compare and contrast raster and vector data models.
Vector data models are useful as they can be presented with its original
resolution without any generalization while with raster data models the cell
size determines the resolution of the data. Raster data models are useful for
mathematical models and quantitative analysis while vector data models are
more for useful for images and maps.
3
Why might you use raster data? Give two examples.
One might use raster data to create a basemap, the basemap is then built
onto with other feature layers. Raster data could also be used to piece
together surface maps of elevation, rainfall, temperature or population
density.

Which tool created better output, the Geocoding by Street Layer or the
Google Geocoder?
The Google Geocoder I thought gave a better more complete output than the
Geocoding by Street Layer.
2
What are the advantages and disadvantages of having all the data on
the internet?
An advantage of having all the data on the internet is that the data is more
complete having all 203 records instead of only 199. A disadvantage though
is the requirement of having internet. The test could not be run in the field
easily if at all. Using the internet also can also take longer depending on the
speed of the internet connection.
3
What are some applications of geocoding? Describe.
Geocoding is a tool used my many companies in customer data
management. Geocoded addresses are used to create maps of clients and
can be used to predict patterns in business. Companies also record customer
names, address, and buying habits to then strategize marketing habits.
