Assignment: Moralistic (and Judgmental) Essay
I am a firm Christian, but I have no right to expect unbelievers to agree with my values.
Further, I cannot deny my own failings. The Bible says that it’s the Holy Spirit’s job—not mine
—to convict people of their sins. I need to remember how much sin remains in my own life,
and I need to lead others to the Lord who can change their lives. But it is NOT my job to
change their lives. The difference is how you project your feelings in your conversations with
those others. First, I hope your personal convictions come with an open mind to consider
the thoughts of others so you can be sure your convictions are strong.judgmentalism can
only occur if you are projecting your beliefs onto someone else. You have no right to do that.
So, you can hold onto your personal convictions without judging others. This makes it a
simple issue of freedom of choice that you uphold for yourself being granted to others.
They are permitted to be wrong.Personal convictions should always be open to new
information. You do not want to turn your opinion into a god; it’s often your approach to the
subject that changes. This is a matter of holding onto reality and that means, your own
sanity. I am not sure who’s judgmentalism you mean; if it’s your own, this is a good
question. We need as adults to balance the truth of our own perception and experience
against the perception of others which of course is based on their experience. We should be
able to accept different even opposing understandings as valid.Accepting that the reality
that our view of the world is based on our unique experience, allows us to accept that
everyone has a different experience and I should expect that they will have a different
opinion. I guess we could call this tolerance. This does not devalue your own position but it
could allow you to listen to another's opinion. After all you don’t have to agree but you do
have to live with each other. If both accept and respect a person’s past then maybe both can
focus on the present issue. That's a personal determination. People's beliefs, convictions,
judgments and the strengths to which they hold them are all part of what makes up their
character. If there's an imbalance that creates an internal conflict, the person will obviously
feel it and usually do some "soul searching" and self correct. But for those that struggle with
it, sometimes seek some form of counseling or therapy.
How do you determine if a person is being judgmental towards you?
Who cares? Ignore them. Why is everyone so concerned with such stupid things? People
have their opinions. You have yours.Move on. Life's too short. Judging a person does not
define who they are, it defines who you are.Any person being judgmental and harsh towards
others is unhappy with the decisions they have made and are really being judgmental and
harsh towards themselves.
I stopped judging people all the time when I realized that everyone has their own unique set
of experiences (or lack thereof) that led them to their current perspective.
Regardless of how stupid, pointless, or seemingly silly I find someone, it is quite safe for me
to assume that they have had a completely different set of experiences as I've had.
Therefore,It is completely ridiculous for me to expect them to see the way I see things or
write them off because I don't like or agree with their line of thinking.
They simply do not know any better.Do you judge babies for being useless other than
pooping, crying, eating, and sleeping?I'd hope not...Hopefully, you understand their lack of
experience and that they are still learning and growing.
They only know what they know, so they are the way they are until they learn otherwise. It's
like that old adage goes... "Don't judge a man until you've walked a mile in their
shoes."Better to live in curiosity and seek first to understand before assuming you know the
whole story. Plus, it's less frustrating that way (like you said, it feels terrible) and people
become a riddle to solve and understand instead of nuisances that you scoff at and write
off. Also, when you live in a place of curiosity, people will like and appreciate you more --
that's a nice feeling.... It's like that other adage goes, "You become interesting when you
become interested."
Why are people judgmental and impose their thoughts on others? Most people uncritically
assume their way of seeing things is the only real way, their beliefs are the only real beliefs,
and their way of doing things is the only valid way. Judging others makes one feel powerful
and reinforces one’s own views without having to seriously test them.
God created all men equal and gave them the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit
of happiness.
Matthew 7“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others,
you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you
look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your
own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all
the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own
eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Many
Blessings.
Judgmentalism, the Puritan and Native American conflicts, the flipside of strong moral
conviction can sometimes be judgmentalism. There is a difficult balance to strike, and
the Puritans sometimes did it well and other times failed to see their own sinful
tendencies. Furthermore, their judgmental spirit was not just aimed at the Native
Americans, but often, and sometimes quite passionately, within their own community.
