Artificial Intelligent
Introduction
How far is too far when it comes to humans being allowed to proceed with experiencing
with artificial intelligent? According to an article that was written by Ehsan, et al, “the origin of
the explainable AI can be traced back to an expert system in the 1980s. The field of XAI has
been undergoing a resurgence due to the proliferation of complex Deep Learning Models”
(2021). With artificial intelligence it has been a topic among groups, such as social media
(Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram), religion, and higher education for a long time. When looking
at the ramifications of using artificial intelligent, or AI, the issue of it being an ethical thing, is
not new, but people will continue to disagree on its usage for years to come. There are people
that believe that AI is a good thing, others believe that it will cause issues in the future. There are
many sides about AI that includes moral, practical, and ethical issues. It is important to be able to
recognize both the advantages and the disadvantages of the developing of AI.
Background
“In the Rogerian model (named for the psychologist Carl Rogers), one shifts emphasis to
the social act of negotiating difference through argument. Truth is not only value based, but it
must also be negotiated cooperatively if argument is to have any constructive social function”
(White, et al, 2020). Artificial Intelligence (AI), even though a much older concept, was initially
defined by Rogers. Artificial intelligence (AI) translates from the Greek as "intelligence of soul"
or "mind of the human brain," (Buiten, 2019).
Is there a thing as going too far with AI? “AI not only has the potential to sustainably
improve the lives of all of us; it also has the potential to endanger society if it falls into the wrong
hands” (Majorel, 2019). You can go too far with AI! According to Majorel (2019), if AI falls into
3
the wrong hands, it could help people to hack into other people’s accounts, not just emails but
into a person’s banking account. It can be used to do a student’s homework and can be used to
create fake accounts on social media.
There are three types of AI, based on their capabilities. There is the weak AI “which can
only focus on one task and unable to go beyond its own limitations, this is the most common in a
person’s everyday life” (Duggal, 2024). The second type of AI is the strong AI, this AI “can
understand and learn any intellectual task that a human being can” (Duggal, 2024). And the third
AI is called the super AI. This AI “surpasses human intelligence and can perform any task better
than a human” (Duggal, 2024) can.
Advantages
There are some benefits to AI. One benefit would be being able to create something that
is new and different. “If you work (or play) in a creative environment and use software
applications like Adobe After Effects or Premiere Pro, you may have used AI there. The
company has added AI capabilities to help creators during the editing process, specifically for
video creators” (Ledford, 2023). Another way that AI has been used is that people are turning to
it more to help them be able to “create a better fitness plan,” (Ledford, 2023). Educators are also
turning to AI because it has help them to create better lesson plans or to become more creative in
the lessons that are planned for their students. And finally, AI has helped the healthcare to be able
to make better drugs so that they are hopefully able to help more people.
With the development of AI, especially in the world of academia, is that one disadvantage
is the use of ChatGPT, and the National Language Processing (NLP) models is that it allows
students not to think for themselves. Everyone that uses the AI as a way of helping with
homework, or doing the homework for them, is allowing students to fall into a society where
4
they do not have to think. But on the flipside of that an advantage of AI is that it can help
students, especially those that do online studies, to “overcome learning obstacles and enhance
their understanding of the material. It could also allow students to have on-demand support that
could help to build student’s confidence and sense of self-efficacy by providing them with the
resources and the assistance that they need to succeed” (Fuchs, 2023). In religion, “the equating
of God with a mainline may seem ridiculous (if not blasphemous) and yet God is as well a non-
natural (artificial?) super intelligent entity” (Reed, 2021). With religion, when it comes to AI or
robots, religion has always seemed to take a stance against technology, but an article about
religion and robots tells us that was not always the case, depending on the religion. “In the time
of Ancient Greece, their methodology, since their beginning, humanity had dreamed of having
robots” (Trovato, et al, 2021).
Argument
One of the biggest disadvantages to AI is that there is no creativity. With AI doing the
work then it leaves a person unable to think for themselves. Another disadvantage of AI is the
high cost of using AI. According to Duggal (2024), the use of AI is causing people to become
lazy and making them ineffective because they are no longer needed. People are taking
advantage of AI in a way that people can no longer think for themselves. “There has been
concern that artificial intelligence (AI) may cause significant unemployment; however,
proponents say that AI augments jobs” (Tschang, 2021). With jobs becoming scarcer, more and
more employers are using robots to keep from paying a salary to an individual. People are
becoming more obsolete, even in stores where they are using self-checkout instead of a person.
Conclusion
5
AI is here for good. Since it is becoming more of a reality, we must contend with both the
advantages and the disadvantages. With AI there is a lot of advantages and disadvantages to
having it and being able to use it. One of the main advantages of AI is that it helps a person to be
more effective on their job. It helps them too able to be more creative. It can help a person, both
in school and while they are working at their jobs. But it also can cause a person to lose their
jobs for the same reason. If a person is able to use AI so easily on their job then it could cause an
employer to terminate them because they are no longer able to think for themselves. The same is
true with school. Professor would see it as the student being lazy or plagiarizing their work,
because it was not done by the student but by AI.
