There are several different types of students that are seen on a college or university
campus, no matter where they come from each student should fit into at least one of these
groups. No matter what college or university that a person goes to students can be looked at as
following into one of three groups, these groups are: athletes, students that are there for the
parties, fraternities, and sororities, and lastly students that are just there to get their education. So,
let us take a closer look at each one of these groups.
The first group that we will look at is the athletes group. This group can also be known as
the jocks. They also get a bad reputation because of their mentality inside of the classroom. The
athletes are also some of the most popular kids in school as well since they are the students that
most people envy and want to be like. They push themselves in the sport that they play to
hopefully make millions of dollars after college while playing at the professional level. This
however is not the case for most student athletes. Athletes are generally not focused on grades
because they know that or at least think that they will cost by because they are athletes, and they
will stay eligible to play. However, depending on the sport that they play this is not the case
either. The less popular the sport is with the people the more the athlete must work. So, it is safe
to say that it is not fair to student-athletes across the board when it comes to education.
The next group is those students that are there more for the social aspect of college and
universities. These students are ones that someone will see at all the parties and joining either
fraternities or sororities based off their gender. These students also believe that they are the most
popular students on campus and the fraternities and sororities constantly battle each other over
who can get a certain new member or throw the best party thinking that it will improve their
popularity level amongst the student body. These students also do not tend to care to much about
education either due to the belief that they will have great jobs waiting on them once they are
finished with school just based on the fraternity or sorority that the person was in.
The last group is the group that a major of students can be a part of and that is the
students that are at the college or university to get their education. These students concentrate
more on the reason why they are there and that is to get the education and knowledge for the
degree that they are pursuing to get that job that they want after they are done with school. This
group of students only hang out with their small group of friends and only attend small functions

at school if they go to any at all. These students never miss class or miss assignments because
they are focused on the task at hand. There might even be those students that fit into one of the
other two groups mentioned above that also fall into this category. One can never assume that
just because they are in one of the other two categories that they do not fall into more than one
category like this group.
We have covered three completely different groups of people when it comes to the typical
college student. As mentioned before there are those students that can fall into more than one
category which is perfectly fine. However, it is up to the student to figure out which group do
they fit into. They need to ask themselves what is it that they are trying to achieve and strive to
hit those goals that they have set forth for themselves.
