Critical Thinking
1)What does the term "critical thinking" mean to you?
Critical thinking, in my opinion, is the process of analyzing information or facts to
formulate an opinion. An important part of critical thinking is being able to analyze,
create interpretations, solve problems, and be open-minded. It provides a way for us to
examine the world around us and gain a deeper understanding of why things happen a
certain way.
2)Where have you seen it used in the past, or used it yourself?
Every individual practice critical thinking when they ask themselves, "why am I thinking
about this question?" What is the purpose or benefit of this response? In critical thinking,
facts and evidence are weighed against personal emotions. As a result of the emotions
involved, a biased response can result in misleading information or incorrect decisions.
Everyday situations are ideal opportunities to practice critical thinking. My health, for
example, is something I am trying to focus on more. In order to achieve this, I will need
to change my diet and learn what foods are beneficial to a healthy diet. To make a critical
choice about how to approach healthier habits, I will need to add to the information that I
currently know and research.
3)Who are some people from history that you feel demonstrated critical thinking?
Throughout history, many critical thinkers have made a significant contribution to the
world, including Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and Martin Luther King Jr. By using
critical thinking, everyone can evaluate their own opinions to determine what is true and
what can be used. By doing so, they will be able to help make the most informed decision
that will be beneficial to both parties.
