Step 1: Classification Essay: Prewriting and Outline
Directions: Using one of the assigned topics, complete all of the elements of the planning;
otherwise, the content of your piece will not be accurate.
Topic: You will choose 1 from the following topics for your Classification Essay:

Three categories: defensive, offensive, and distracted drivers.
Attitude/Point: there are three different types of drivers on the road.
Audience: drivers who want to better themselves
Purpose: to inform
Topic Sentence: There are different types of drivers on the road.
Thesis Statement: Of the different types of drivers on the road, there is the defensive driver,
which is the safest, and the offensive driver, who speeds to take control of the road. And then
there is the most dangerous, the distracted driver.
Brainstorm Characteristics:
Defensive driver: knowledgeable about laws, vigilant, good judgment
Offensive driver: speeds, skill, and control
Distracted: disregard for laws, life, careless, reckless

Classification Outline:
i. There are different types of drivers on the road.
A: Ecclesiastes 9:10 states as follows: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your
might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are
going.” (New international version)
B: Of the different types of drivers on the road, there is the defensive driver, the safest,
then the offensive driver, who speeds to take control of the road. And then there is the
most dangerous, the distracted driver.
ii. First, there is the safest driver, the defensive driver.
A: the defensive driver is very knowledgeable about the laws and regulations of the road.
B: the driver is vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
C: to be a good driver, you must also have good judgment
iii. Then there is the offensive driver, who has a combination of the two categories
A:in offensive driving, the driver speeds to control the road.
B: the driver must have extreme control over the vehicle and road
C: the driver also must have the skill to correctly calculate the gaps and breaks in traffic
ahead.
iv. The distracted driver is the most dangerous driver on the road.
A: the driver does not focus on the road
B: the drive also has no self-awareness about what they are doing
C: most likely to be involved in a major accident
v. With the different types of drivers on the road, the only option to be a safe driver is to
learn how to be a defensive driver.
A: defensive driving can lower the insurance rate of the policyholder
B: less likely to be involved in car accidents
C: and will get their destination safely

there are diffrent types ofdrivers on road. Of the different types of drivers on the road,
there is the defensive driver, the safest, then the offensive driver, who speeds to take
control of the road. And then there is the most dangerous, the distracted driver. Ecclesiastes

international version) this translates to what ever you hands do "holding the steering wheel" do
it with your mite " follow the rules"
First, there is the safest driver, the defensive driver.the defensive driver is very
knowledgeable about the laws and regulations of the road. they know what the speed limit is
and do not go voer it .the driver is vigilant and aware of their surroundings. they know where
the hazards are and can safly travers the roads.to be a good driver, you must also have good
judgment. you must know how close you are to the other operators and to be able to observe
futher up to raod to predict changes in trafiic.
Then there is the offensive driver, who has a combination of the two categories offenciove
drivers speed around other cars so they can be serpated form toehr drivers. in order to be
able to do that you mus have extream control over the car and know how the road is going to
handle the car. the driver must alo have skill in order to caculate the gaps of cars moving
ahead of them. this is a combination of the other two driving cartagoys.
The distracted driver is the most dangerous driver on the road.They have no focus on the
road ahead. the driver could be on the phone l;ooking down at the raido or simply looking
arround at the senery. the driver might not even relize they are putting others at risk.
driving destaracted puts the drvier at higher risk of am acadent.
With the different types of drivers on the road, the only option to be a safe driver is to
learn how to be a defensive driver. being a defencive driver will help keep insurence premuims
low. the driver will less likly be a victum of a mjoir acadent. by draving safly the driver will
get thor the destionation safly, on time, and in a better mood.

road, there is the defensive driver, the safest, then the offensive driver, who speeds to take
control of the road. And then there is the most dangerous, the distracted driver.

speed around other cars so the driver can be separated from other drivers. To do that, you
must have extreme control over the vehicle and know how the road will handle the car. The
driver must also be able to calculate the gaps of vehicles moving ahead of them. This is a
combination of the other two driving categories.
The distracted driver is the most dangerous driver on the road. They need to focus on the
road ahead. The driver could be on the phone l; looking down at the radio, or simply
looking around at the scenery. The driver might not even realize they are putting others at
risk. Driving distracted puts the driver at higher risk of being in an accident.
With the different types of drivers on the road, the only option to be a safe driver is to learn
how to be a defensive driver. Being a defensive driver will help keep insurance premiums
low. The driver will be less likely to be a victim of a significant accident. By driving safely,
the driver will reach the destination safely, on time, and in a better mood.
