Cheating, whether it be on a test, on homework or classwork, or on someone else is
wrong. Cheating is a sin because it has to do with deception, and God hates deception as stated in
Proverbs 12:22, “The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are
trustworthy.”(NIV). Proverbs 13:5 says, “The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make
themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.”(NIV). Cheating can come in different
ways like lying and being lazy. Although there are many different ways a person can cheat, it is
still wrong to do and is a sin.
In a relationship, it is never all right to cheat on someone. Cheating on someone is a sin
because it is lying to the person that is being cheated on. Exodus 20:14 tells us, “You shall not
commit adultery”(NIV). Adultery does not only hurt the person that was deceived, but it ruins
the reputation of the adulterer. The best thing to do is to be honest and open in a relationship, and
do not lie to someone. That is one way of being lazy because the person cheating is not breaking
up with the person that they are with before finding someone else to be with.
Even though it is easy and tempting to do, do not copy somebody else’s homework, test,
or assignments. When someone copies another individual’s paper, they are cheating. If they are
cheating, they are plagiarizing someone else’s work. Plagiarizing is wrong because that
individual’s paper is taken and used so that the person plagiarizing does not have to do the hard
work on their own. Cheating by copying someone else’s paper is another way of being lazy
because the cheater is not doing the work themselves.
Cheating in a video game is also wrong. The person cheating is cutting corners so that the
other player will lose. The game does not seem to be fun anymore when a player sees that the
person they are playing with is cheating because they are not playing fair. It is not fun to play a
game with someone who cuts corners to win. After people see how someone who cheats plays a
game, they will not want to play with them because nobody wants to play with a sore loser.
No matter how someone cheats, whether it be in a relationship, on a paper, or playing a
game with someone, it is wrong because it is lying and being dishonest. In my opinion, if
someone is cheating, they are finding a way to be lazy. If someone is cheating in a relationship,
they are being lazy by not telling the truth to the person the other person. On a paper or
assignment, if someone cheats, they are being lazy by not doing their own work. If a couple of
people are playing a game and one of them cheats, it is because they want to reach the goal
without having to do the hard work to get there. Proverbs 12:19 states, “Truthful lips endure
forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.”(NIV). Cheating, no matter how it is seen, is
being dishonest and deceitful, and that means that no matter how it is done, it is wrong.
