Everyman is a morality play written by an unknown author and is a perfect reflection of the
state of human nature in relation to the gift of salvation provided by God. Throughout the play
Everyman (that is the character’s name) leads a lifestyle, makes choices, and speaks the same as
anyone. For example, when he is initially confronted with his sins (by the character “Death”) he
pushes away the one form of redemption that could save him which is God. It is not until he has
exhausted every other alternative that he finally happens upon the right path that will lead to a
genuine change of heart and his eventual salvation. We are the same. When something goes
wrong in our lives or we are confronted by sin or the results of our fallen world we rarely ever
handle it in the correct way, at least not at first. Usually it takes a while for us to exhaust all the
other possibilities before we finally collapse exhausted and come crawling back to God a broken
and repentant soul (and usually a little wiser for it). When it comes to fulfilling the great
commission and sharing the Gospel, using the broken tendencies of humanity to highlight the
mighty power and love of Christ is something God has been in the business of doing for
thousands of years. If we want to fulfill the great commission all we have to do is focus on God,
understand our broken tendencies, and as our eyes are fastened on Christ our damaged human
nature will be transformed in us, and through our change God will transform others as well.

You provide such good insight in your post. I love how you have highlighted the point about
the Magi’s journey mirroring the Christian walk. It amazes me how the Word of God is always
able to reveal new or fresh perspectives through each one of us even after thousands of years. It
seems like the faithful endurance of the magi were one of the first examples of gentile “role

models”. Though they had tremendous faith they also based that faith on something tangible and
followed it’s leading all the way to the end.

I never realized how Othello could be used in such a positive way to represent the Gospel.
You really explained that well! The devil is always using cunning methods to cheat us out of our
faith in God and love for others. Dealing with 20 year old liars is difficult enough, but to think
we're dealing with liars who are only God knows how old is plain frightening. Sometimes it is
intimidating to be pit up against such a foe, but in the end it is good to remember we are on the
side who has the guy who can see through the web of decietful lies inside even the devil's head
and can come out ahead every time.
