SYNTHESIS PAPER ASSIGNMENT
Curriculum development and leadership are complicated matters. They require an
understanding of several concepts and how those concepts relate to each other. The focus of
curriculum leaders is the appropriate learning experiences that students have (Parkay et al.,
2019). Leaders must consider social forces, human development stages, and learning styles when
trying to develop a curriculum that provides appropriate learning experiences for students. This
paper will discuss the areas that this author found to be most insightful when acquiring a better
appreciation of curriculum development and curriculum leadership.
Social Forces
Ten social forces have an impact on student achievement. They are ethnic and cultural
diversity, changes in morality, family stress, the environment, nature of work, equality, crime and
violence, lack of purpose and meaning, and global independence (Parkay et. al., 2019). The
impact that these forces have on curriculum development is insightful. As a science teacher, the
two especially intriguing forces are A problem-lack of purpose/meaning and nature of work.
based method of instruction is commonly used to encourage student engagement. However,
some problems are unique to certain cultures or socioeconomic classes. Using this model can add
to the existing issue of exclusionary teaching practices which is a major contributor to the
academic achievement gap in STEM education.
