LETTER TO PRINCIPAL RESPONSE ASSIGNMENT

Dear Mrs. Thomas:
Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about Sherwood's classroom technology. I
would like to assure you that Sherwood's classroom technology will improve classroom lessons
and provide students with the resources for more engaged learning, academic success, 21
st
century skills, and future career aspirations. Technology has revolutionized our world and
permanently changed the future of the U.S. education system. Information and communications
technology (ICT) has become an integral teaching and learning for the delivery of classroom
curriculum. Research findings support the importance of the use of technology in the classroom
and state that “the United States needs to use its resources to stay competitive in the increasingly
technological world, particularly in the classroom” (Lefebvre, Deaudelin, & Loiselle, 2006).
Today’s students are already very familiar with navigating the Internet. According to Thomas
2021, “we no longer live in a world of books, paper, and pen. Children grow up surrounded by
digital media. They can communicate with peers around the world; they can find obscure
information in seconds”. Furthermore, “we must make our students critics, innovators, and team
players; we should teach them to communicate in the broad sense of the word by infusing their
coursework with blogging, recording filming, texting, collaborating, and tweeting.” (Thomas,
2021). Research data and best practices from school districts across the U.S. support Sherwood’s
move to expand the use of technology and upgrade our systems. Teachers will design creative
new methods to present curriculum that is interactive, engaging, increases collaboration and
student motivation. To make certain there is a smooth transition, teachers will receive ongoing
training and development to prepare for integration and stay abreast of new technological trends.

We have chosen Google Classroom, a cloud-based user-friendly Learning Management Platform
(LMS) that integrates many other applications, streamlines processes, and can be easily accessed
from computers and smartphones. If you are interested in learning more about how Google
Classroom works, your student will be able to access course materials at home with their
password. In addition, we have scheduled parent workshops for October 11
th
and 12
th
at 6:00
p.m.
