INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT 2
Interview Assignment
Mr. Smith’s current position is culture coordinator manager. He has been in the role for
one year. His professional background is last year he was a culture coordinator liaison for the
same organization. A few of those positions were a police officer and security at a healthcare
institution. I felt Mr. Smith was a credible resource to recruit for the interview because he has
been with the organization for a small amount of time and has been able to work in both staff and
management positions. He has shown growth professionally and the ability to lead.
At which point do you find it necessary to bring others into your decision-making
process? Why?
I find it necessary to bring someone else into my decision-making process when he feels a
scholar is not responding to him. For example, if I receive a call from a teacher that a scholar if
having an issue in the classroom and needs a brief reset out of class, I will go to that specific
classroom and pull the scholar for a check-in. During our check-in if the scholar does not
respond to me after four minutes into our session, I will ask someone else to join our session.
When you recommend something to management, what approach do you usually
use?
Typically, when I have a recommendation, I will have a face-to-face conversation with either the
director or superintendent informing them of the recommendation. After the conversation then it
is time for a written proposal to both the director and superintendent. In the vent, that neither is
available, and the recommendation cannot wait until their availability. I will send an email
communication; it will follow the flow of what I would share in the face-to-face conversation.
What do you typically do when you hear of a problem in your area? Explain.
INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT 3
Because I handle problems related to scholars and their behavior, when I have an issue that
arises, I take a deep breath first. Taking a deep breath allows me to perform a self-check with my
mind and body. By doing this, I can solve the problem with a clear head.
Do you feel that the chain of command is important? Why?
Yes, I do feel the chain of command is important because it keeps everyone in the loop that
needs to know. It helps to ensure that no one is overlooked or left out of information.
When you must write letters, how do you usually ger started?
Most of my letters are to parents about their scholar’s behavior and/or to provide updates. I start
the letter by addressing the parent by name. Then I proceed with giving pertinent information
related to the issue regarding their child(ren). If a meeting is needed, I ask for their availability.
How do you get others to follow you?
I ensure that I lead by example, I do not just talk the talk, I walk the walk. What I mean by that is
I make sure that I go above and beyond daily to make myself available for the scholars I serve,
their parents and my colleagues. I also develop a rapport with those I encounter from day-to-day.
How do you decide when a different problem-solving approach is needed?
When the current approach is not rendering the best solution any longer, I consider every aspect
that could contribute to the problem-solving approach, this includes aspects that slow down the
process of solving the problem. Looking at both the pros and cons are also important. Checking
in with all individuals that would be affected by the change and getting their feedback as well.
What is your biggest work-related problem, and how do you resolve it?
It is when the administration does not support me fully, as I had envisioned. I would say I
resolved it; I proceed as they have instructed me to do. When that does not work, they will
sometimes come back and say, Let us try what you suggested.”
INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT 4
In conclusion, Mr. Smith is a vital part of the social emotional challenges faced by
scholars daily. Having gained a better understanding of how Mr. Smith solves problems and how
organizational analysis plays an important part of his role, which in turn helps him to be his best
self for the community he serves. Also, gaining an understanding that we share some similar
problem-solving strategies was great.
