There are many challenges that leaders face. Schools leaders have many responsibilities
that are very challenging. Even with all of the challenges, leaders are still looking for new
opportunities to serve their school and community. After identifying the challenges and action
steps to deal with the dangers, leaders must maintain their vision. Leaders not only set change in
motion, but also follow up to ensure that new initiatives and priorities are deeply embedded in
the school’s culture.
Some of the dangers that a leader may face are budgeting, collaboration, lack of parental
involvement, good teachers, appropriate technology, collaboration, and state and federal
mandates. With school budgets decreasing over the past few years it is very hard to maintain
appropriate technology. Time is limited for collaboration and professional development.
Some action steps to deal with these dangers would be to identify the dangers,
communicate expectations, and collaborate with all stakeholder. First, it is important to identify
the dangers and determine how to correct them. Second, communicate with all stakeholders your
expectations and discuss how to achieve it. Principals can’t bring change without help from all
stakeholders. There are a number of stakeholders who will be impacted, including teachers,
students, family and community members. Effective leaders are always helping the school
community return to its foundational vision and mission. As an educational leader these dangers
and action steps will always be ever changing. A great leader must began with a vision for the
school and get all stakeholders to believe in the vision.
